I think the consensus among fans is that the CJP decision to continue to trot out JG as a STARTING SEC QB is beyond fathomable. But, it’s still happening. Inexplicably.

While I share in that opinion 100%, beyond that, no matter who is behind QB, this is just BAD FOOTBALL. And it’s an insult to watch. Bad tackling. Horrible play calling. Mental lapses. Undisciplined. Penalties. Turnovers. No desire or hustle. Horrible player development. Attitudes. Coaches and players.

Taking the orange goggles off, and looking impartially, this is just BAD FOOTBALL all around.

And while the QB situation is infuriating, it’s not the reason I won’t be watching Saturday. It’s the fact that year after year, week after week, we continue to play BAD FOOTBALL. And it’s about as BAD as it gets right now.

The way it was supposed to look was chaneys offense was supposed to be able to score 40 50pts a game. Pruitts style of defense was supposed to be the type of defense that wouldnt allow the other team to cross midfield. Somewhere the wires are crossed...

I believe JG is back on a short leash and knows this. Those KY game mistakes can't happen again. I believe Maurer is ready and waiting on his shot. But, this also leads me to believe that JG's conservative play puts us at a disadvantage. Yes, he's not turning the ball over playing that way, but he's not getting huge chunks of yards and moving the ball down the field.

Based on your observations of practices, which of the other QBs understands the O well enough to start?

Maurer is definitely preferable to Shrout IMO but I wonder if he knows the O any better this year...he was always too quick to abandon the play last year which could have been due to not understanding all the options on each play. He’s definitely the best of the lot in terms of running but I don’t think we’ll be very successful with a QB who runs the ball every time the only receiver he looks at is covered. Of course there are numerous where JG Should have pulled the ball down and run but didn’t. QB has been frustrating us since Dobbs left

Man, I wish I was as weak as some as you fans. No matter what, I’m watching if we are winning by 50 or losing by 50. Football season doesn’t last that long so enjoy it while it’s here. Even if we suck. It will be the long horrible offseason before you know it. GBO.

I think Pruitt is thinking short-term, maybe feeling a little pressure, and he thinks he needs wins right now, so he’s going with JG based solely on experience and comfort. I take him at his word when he says JG gives them the best chance to win right now.

But the bad part of that is, you’re going to be in the same cycle of losing next year if you don’t get another guy some valuable reps, experience and playing time this year. It’s classic short-term thinking over strategic long-term thinking.

Tennessee has many players that simply don’t want to play the way it takes to win,
It’s very easy to see on Saturdays

This is the same guy who stays out fishing during a tornado, thunderstorm with hail, and a tsunami, because it will be a long horrible time before he can go fishing again.

Well if JG craps the bed this game I think his time as Starting QB is over. This is his last chance. Pruitt can’t afford to play him anymore if he botches this game.
Unfortunately you are wrong. The scenario you are stating has been in place at minimum since the 2nd half of the Georgia game.

I couldn’t agree more.

As had been said repeatedly on VN, by a great many people, Pruitt can afford anything, he absolutely will not be fired without cause. Cause will not be related to dumb ass football. Cause will be for nefarious actions that relieve UT from paying a buyout. Fulmer hired him and will not be allowed to fire him without cause. He made his bed and a lot of big donors, in my opinion, are perfectly willing to purge Phil and his influence from the organization once and for all. No matter the on field results.

If you love something, you’re going to do it no matter what. Applies to going fishing or watching football.

Watched the '97 Tn/Ark game yesterday. First half had dumb penalties. pick 6, missed tackles, and odd play calling. Couldn't take it and bailed on the second half. As they say," The more things change, the more they stay the same."

JG is part of the problem. Poorly schemed & executed offensive game plan(see penalties & receivers without separation). Predictable & poorly executed defense(see tackling & wide open receivers). Bad Coaching...

I agree with you. I think Maurer has caught up in practice and would be ready to go once JG poops the bed again.

Just need it to happen in the first quarter...
