Having lived here in Arkansas for 20 years, I can tell you the coach that Butch reminds me of the most is Houston Nutt. Lots of school spirit, lots of rah-rah, pretty good recruiter, terrible in game coach, resentful of fan's expectations, and HIGH control.

Towards the end of the Nutt reign, fans here were clamoring for a more high powered offense and Nutt reluctantly hired Malzahn as his OC, but resented doing it because it was an admission that his system wasn't working. What transpired was Malzahn having zero control over play calling and the offense because Nutt was not about to let a hot shot high school up and comer prove to be smarter and more innovative than he was. It was a disaster and Malzahn left after 1 year. Nutt was ran off the following year.

This is what I would see happening with Butch and a new OC if DeBord takes off or retires. Butch is too high control, too resentful, too much pride, etc. He will put the shackles on whoever he hires and it will end badly........as will Butch's career at UT

I knew there was flaw somewhere in your background. I blame mine on living in Atlanta for 40 years.

Well...he was run off yeah, but the dagger was really when he got busted texting that TV reporter. I guess at least she didn't fall off the back of his motorcycle. Butch doesn't strike me as the philandering type, but maybe he will manage to tack that on to his botched resume before he gets the boot.

Micro-managers don't typically see themselves as micro-managers. They see themselves as managers.

Exactly! Lol how many times have I seen a new VP at a large corporation require he/she see reports on attendance or other completely innane subjects for that level for the 4 or 5 thousand people reporting up to them? Do you really want a six figure guy or gal spending any amount of his or her precious time hand wringing over a tech missing a day of work in two successive months? Which then goes down the chain for inquiry and backup with the response the two misses were legit? Seen this over and over and over again and they make proclamations how they want an efficient head count and be nimble like google!! LOL
