This is actually Year 3

Fulmer is back with the program - the 2nd winningest Vol coach in the 20th Century combined with Butch who owns the 21st Century. If the fair weather fans were worth a fraction of the quality of these 2 Hall of Fame coaches, there would be no issues. Yes Butch will be an HOF coach if given time to build the juggernaut he is capable of with full fan support. It will come down to Georgia and Tennessee in the east. Gators will go through a real dark age - Spurrier will hang around practice and be an albatross to Mcilwaine and Dan Mullen, his successor.

I truly hope you aren't serious.

Do tell, if butch is such a great coach, why do we continue to see no development in HIS players that he recruited?

The first 2 years are chalked up to the Kiffin-Dooley fiasco.

This is Year 3 and is rebuilding due to juniors turning pro early, Hurd quitting football and injuries this season.

Stay the course - don't pull an LSU - fire your coach and then get embarrassed by Jimbo Fisher or Jim Bob Stoops. Vols just finished paying off Dooley - give Butch a raise and show some loyalty and class for a change.

So you waited 10 years on VN to start trolling...

Well played.

If I were Currie I would call in the staff, give them all a raise, tell them to relax - there is no hot seat. Keep on recruiting and stay with the 10 year plan. Like George Washington vs. the British - don't panic every time you see a red jersey.

Troll alert.....

A really good coach can turn around a crap program in 3 years.

I made a post in another thread that showed the 2 and some 3rd season of most coach that we consider to be good coaches. Based off that it is pretty clear you can tell most of what you need to know before year 3.

You only get a pass years 1-3. Year 1 is Ground Zero and figuring out what you have. Year 2 should be learning how to win. Year 3 you should be contending, but if not completely there it's understandable since you still have a split roster between the previous coach and your own. Anything after that and it's all on the head coach. Sorry but that's how it is. I think that's pretty reasonable.

Wouldn't matter if it was year 1. How long does it take to realize the guy is a loser? What should concern you is that the East will eventually get better- we could legit be looking at Vandy/Kentucky/Tennessee battles to stay our of the cellar soon.

Im a stout CBJ supporter. And even i dont call this year 3. However, our coach does not have anything to be sorry for in my opinion. He lost a couple games last year he should have won. He also beat UGA in 2015 when they should have won. He beat a darn good USC team in 2014. Other than that he's lived up to expectations if we're being honest with ourselves. And before we bring up Florida two years ago. Please remember that even if he went for 2 and we made it we would have still went to overtime. Not an automatic win.

However, all situations are not equal. Coaches do not all inherit the same problem, nor should they be expected to be on the same timeline.

It is year 5. We are far from in a ditch and have only lost 1 game. So stop the silliness. We have a good coach and a good team that need our support.

Go Vols, beat Georgia.

How much longer before Butch can win the state of Tennessee, could this be the beginning of the end for Lyle Jones if he fails once again to win the state?
