This has to be a joke.

I think if one went back on some of the well known coaches bios they'll find then at some who-the-heck is....school starting out. Some of the ones we want didn't exactlly shoot out of the gate winning the NC. Hell we could have a cross between Lombardi, Shula and Landry walk in and it's ..."look at that losing record...we're toast". good grief!

May I reflect on a bit of UT history here? When I was a student in the 1960s, one coach (Bowden Wyatt) imploded, followed by an interim coach. The next year the A.D. hired an unknown assistant coach from Arkansas whose initials were also D.D.: Doug Dickey. Back then we didn't have the internet, so there wasn't as much hyperventilating and name-calling as as has gone on here at VN. But who the heck is this guy, we wondered. His first year was an unimpressive 4-5-1. The next 5 years, however, UT went 41-10-3 and won 2 SEC championships.
My point is, you never know. Dooley may be a bust; he may be another Doug Dickey. Only time and the scoreboard will tell.

I'm glad to come on here and see people BASHING someone who is not behind this coach. Although I am not sure about this hire, I am behind him because I am a Tennessee fan. Dooley was going to be a headline hire eventually, we just got in on him early.. Give him time and he will make us all believers. We are Tennessee! BGO!

Either you are part of the Vol nation and positively support our team or not - each must decide now. I will always support because I love UT - Coach Dooley welcome and Go Big Orange.

Good history lesson for myself (39 yrs old) and fans younger than I. I'm going into this with an open mind and wish him the best.

Hi guys, I'm not here to start trouble or be a troll. Honestly, I am just curious to the response occuring at your school after the hire of my school's coach/ad.

As I'm sure all of you know, we gave him his first HC job. He energized a dying program for us and got many important projects completed for us. We didn't even have a jumbotron until he came around and wooed the alumni. Got a new fieldhouse and a south endzone project approved for us as well. None of this could have been done without his work off the field.

We're pretty upset to see him leave us, especially since he served as our AD and since signing day is creeping up. The man can recruit like hell, he got us verbals from some of the best players in our state and even stole a few of y'alls ;)

I know I will be paying attention to Tennessee football this year to see what he can do for the Vols. Best of luck this season. I hope he can save some of your recruits.

This is Tennessee not Tulane or Central Michigan. If this is the best hire we could have made then this university is in alot of trouble. Was Dan Mullen,Kirby Smart,Charlie Strong even interviewed. This is an even worse embarrasment to Tennessee than Kiffin Leaving.People you better hope the basketball men and women do well so we can have something to cheer about cause Neyland on a fall saturday will be the laughing stock of college football when there is only 50,000 people there. As bad a day in tennessee history as far as I can see.

I think it's a good hire for you guys. Good luck from a Dawg.

Thanks for the post, and ignore some of our whiny so-called fans.

(wo)man ;)

Then again it's unusual for there to be crazed female sports fan.

Anyway, y'all are most welcome for the ecouragement.

Gotta keep it real though, I am cringing during this press conference. We heard a lot of what he said 3 years ago and now he is at another school. Hope he stays there longer with you! Then again, he is now at a bigger program with a MUCH better salary.. so I'm sure he will.

I really don't know how to feel about the new hire. On one hand I wish we could have gotten a big name coach with a proven record and on the other hand I think a young upcoming coach is just what we need. Someone that's hungry to prove he belongs with the big boys. No matter he is our coach and I will be pulling for the Big Orange and still plan on going to LSU next year.

Really? Because I was looking at your 86th ranked class and noticed that no one would even be qualified as a Holder.

I'm confused now? Did I miss something?
