I went to the game tonight and after having seen what went down I'm actually backing off of blaming Butch Jones. As fans we wanted to see more of our passing game and by God we sure got it. We now know why Jones and Debord haven't been calling passing plays. If it's not Dobbs throwing uncatchable balls it's our butterfinger receivers dropping them. After tonight I've come to the conclusion that we really aren't a good team. The Iowa game and all the hype in the off season really set a tone for us that NEVER should have been set, it was all a rouse. What I witnessed tonight wasn't just play calling problems it was an all around team problem. We were missing tackles all over the field on defense, our db's were leaving receivers open to catch the balls. Our offensive blocking is still weak but we all knew that going into the season.

We are a young team guys and as much as we don't want to hear it, or believe it from Butch or anyone else the fact is we ARE a young, flawed team, plain and simple.

So you're saying our coaching sucks.

You are correct sir.

Why can every other team get young players on the field and make contributions but Tennessee can't. The coaches use it as an excuse and some fans buy into it. Florida started 3 offensive linemen that are Freshmen and a QB that is a Freshemen. So how is it they are 5-0. They are way too young. They should be 2-3 just like Tennessee.

Look, there have been many coaches achieve great success by year 3. Or show signs of greatness.

I'm not advocating for a coaching change yet, but I'm starting to feel like we still don't have the guy. Hate it because I love CBJ... but you gotta win baby, no excuses.

Florida has even younger team. Amazing what good coaching can do - you can even start a freshman QB and do well in the SEC if you have good coaching.

Don't forget just how bad the defense is too! I thought they were gonna be the strength of this team this year.

...and yet you can't escape the fact that this is the first team in the history of Tennessee football to lose 3 games in a season in which they held a 10 point lead or more and that's only after 5 games.

Bret has never won an SEC road game until tonight.

We were 11 points short of winning the SEC title in 2004 with 2 freshman QBs.

Agree with everything you said, but a good coach can address those issues and plan/prepare for his teams short comings and adjust where needed instead of just going with the one and ONLY f'n game plan every week.

UF is doing just fine with a 1st year coach and less talent. 3 years in we are still crying the same tune. Arky had less talent than the Vols tonight.

A good portion of these kids have been with the program and with Butch for a few years now. They know what's expected of them. If the talent is there, but the execution isn't, is it not fair to say that the players aren't well coached?

This. Bottom line is great coaches overachieve and mediocre coaches are just that....mediocre.
