This defense is legitimately bad.

I've been back on forth on Boo. He was super locked in last week and really wasn't this week. But I agree on Telander.
Boo was busting out his dance moves right in front of the Arkansas bench after on good play too. He needs to hit the portal in the off season with his lack of maturity.

Apparently this thread stayed negative…
For the record my post above was right after the strip fumble at the end of the first half (by our big boys).

You guys gotta lighten up. Defense lost contain on a few big plays but overall considering… we got a fun win in large part because of our defense…
Defense is pretty good at forcing negative plays and turnovers. Keeping the safeties back, we're going to have some runs get to the second level. I've been frustrated with the tackling quality on the second level, and the frequent mistakes by the defenders who need to set the edge on running plays. Telander hasn't been great in coverage either.

Tim Banks is doing his best Sal Sunseri this season. I recognize what Banks did last season, but that looks like the aberration at this point. He needs to be fired because we could really improve at DC but Heupel wont do it. So, we have to hope some desperate small school takes a chance on him.

Think they need to bring constant pressure. We were up 17 and Ark had 3 and 8 and we only rushed 4. The previous 3 series we brought pressure and had them on their heels. More good than bad things happen when we pin our ears back. The only way we beat Bama is go for broke. Remember 2001 Fl game.
We have one and not mentioning names but he needs to grow the f*** up!
Well no **** Sherlock. It's a joke.
I wasn’t joking.

Problem is that this is a 4 quarter game. This defense is an embarrassment.
Shut all the crying up damn… yall must really miss the 7-5 days it sucks to win… you always spew negative but don’t mention context… defense gave our offense the ball back 3 times and only once we scored with it and that’s why they got us the ball back in the red zone… they are boom or bust and I hope we improve our consistency but it’s A lot of teams who are playing worse defense then us and not on the field for 40 minutes per game… heup needs to pick his aggressive up on offense as well… defense does enough to win every game it’s not an embarrassment.

Giving up 7 3rd and longs is plenty to be ashamed of. We’re going to lose 2-3 more games solely because of this awful defense and Banks inability to scheme up anything.
How many were due to holding or was we not watching the same game ? Defense not perfect but tell the full story blatant holds on scrambles was insane not to call.

That sums up how Banks teaches zone defense. Guys run to their spot, lock in on the QB, and have zero clue what any receiver is doing. They have zero idea where any of them are or what routes they are running. It’s just drop to your spot, stand there, and look at the QB.

And we’ve been shredded in zone for 5 years. McCoy masked a lot of problems last year just by being a super talent with great instincts.
Drives me crazy to see no heads on a swivel looking for players entering their zones and making a break on the route. Ball watching and guarding grass. Puke

It's interesting how a few teams can consistently put together elite offenses with elite defenses while other teams, such as Tennessee, can usually be elite on one side of the ball but very rarely elite on both sides. Heupel hasn't yet had a team that is consistently dominant on both sides, but he's been close, and seems to be getting closer. I look at teams like Bama, UGA, Ohio State, and Oregon as programs that consistently have the talent and depth to win on offense and defense. Maybe it's a money issue, but that seems to be the key to establishing a decade-long dynasty.
