This defense is legitimately bad.

At least with the injuries we have now. And even with injuries, giving up 500 yards to Stockton and that offense at home is putrid.

This pass defense is awful and has been shredded by Angeli and Stockton. Almost 600 yards passing given up in just two games against QBs that aren’t close to the best we’ll see this year.

There’s nothing in the middle of this defense either. The DTs we have left get swallowed up and Telander looks like he runs a 5.0 40. He’s slow and got roasted all game. And for some reason we want to play a walk on 20 snaps a game at LB despite all the young guys we have recruited. That is unexplainable.

If Hobbs, Moi, and McCoy can’t come back, this is going to be a very bad defense that gets killed all year. Horribly disappointed in Banks and what he’s doing right now, we should not have regressed this far.

Tim Banks is legitimately bad in big games. Watch we will hold Miss State to like 10 points lol he wants to flex on the smaller teams to make himself seem better than he is when in reality we are just out talen ting people

I wonder if Jerod Mayo would be interested in coaching in college. I don’t think he is going to get another HC position in the NFL anytime soon. He was a great linebacker in college and the pros. He could really help us to build an SEC elite defense. I am not expecting Banks to leave soon. If we could get Mayo on the staff he could make a huge impact on the defense.

Clemson started a freshman QB, LSU was good, Bama last year was good, Bama in 2022 they gave up 49 points so not good, neither Florida team was good.
Still. How long had it been beforehand since we beat those teams?

Interesting - he would, seemingly, be a great hire.

So how would you grade Georgia’s defense? We were a missed FG away dude. Give to boys a break

Who coached the defense last year? That was a dang good squad.

Also, we need to remember that we played at a much slower pace last year due to Nico's lack of ability to move quickly. That limited defensive outings and gave the defense more of a rest. With the type of offense that we run the defense is going to give up more yardage. You rely on your defense to make a few stops, hold the other team to a few FGs, etc. to give yourself a chance to pull ahead by multiple scores. They actually took care of business yesterday, we just didn't finish.

Edit: Also based on your username I assume you're a pediatrician. Doing God's work, you have my respect.

We are at our best offensively, when we are playing fast, it’s just a fact. When we slow down, we struggle. Josh made the decision to bring this time of offense with him, and it’s an unconventional way to play football. So, if we are at our best when we play fast, we are gonna have to play fast for 4 quarters. Unfortunately, the downside playing this way puts the defense in a bad situation of running out of gas fast. I know we were missing starters that will help when they get back, but I’m afraid we are just gonna have to outscore everyone and hope for the best that we can get a couple turnovers on defense. On occasion, this offense will have a quick 3 and out and your defense that just got gashed is right back out there. When you decide to play this way, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Fact of the matter is, we will struggle defensively against quality teams, and there are plenty of quality teams left on our schedule. Tim Banks has to take risks defensively, he really has no chance of producing turnovers if he doesn’t. Georgia QB made a perfect throw on the 4th and 6 over our young corner. The way we play will always have you pulling out your hair, it’s just football played a way that most are not used to. Being the DC at UT (except he makes great money)is tough, because of the way we play offense in tempo, you have to understand that, when you decide to take on the challenge.
More folks understood this early in Heupel's tenure. After the third quick strike, I was thinking, "Uh-oh. Hope we can keep putting points up, cause the defense is going to be gassed."

If Tim Banks is going to play man defense all year and refuse to give help to # 4, then it's going to look like it did Saturday for the most part. Last year's team could play the one on one this team got exposed trying to do that.

No they didn’t. You’re going to put this on an offense that scored 41 against that defense?
It’s not as simple as defense gave up 44 points so they played bad. The defense had an up and down day. Georgia played one of the most physical games they’ll play all year. They just ran it over and over and tried to break the Vols spirit. Look at the splits 55 runs to 32 passes. The defense came up huge when the offense stalled out and kept the team in the game. They forced a 3 and out and then kept Georgia to a field goal after the pick in the Vols territory. They were a 4th down pass away from sealing the game. Gotta tip your hat to Georgia for executing a ballsy play on 4th. The team did enough to win and should have won which is what makes it hurt. The offense played great but inconsistent at times. The defense got beat up but showed up when needed. Special teams at times were great and then came up short when needed the most

1 year out of 5 with a good defense with him being one of the highest paid DC in the land. Bless his heart.

And the DL not coached by Banks was the difference last year.

The defense is only mediocre because of injuries. We had a roller-coaster day, but I think zone is a MAJOR weakness. We need to execute zone defense better, maybe a few zone blitzes...

The DL coach reports to the DC

Bless your heart. Almost sounds like you're envious of him
