This defense is legitimately bad.

Who told you this?
The way Heupel speaks about Gibson, I don’t expect to see him (I don’t know the injury, but when Heupel speaks in those terms, it isn’t good). McCoy is still just 9 months post-op and playing the hardest position on the field for that injury. He has a lot of reasons to not rush back.

Who has like maybe the 100th best offense in the country……
It happens every year Kirby sandbags games like Austin Peay. That offense isn't bad. Branch is as good as Brazzell, their TEs are better than ours catching the ball, their running backs are big and tough runners. Everyone will see in 2 weeks when GA beats Bama. This loss wont sting so bad when UGA goes 11-1 or 12-0

A week ago, Austin Peay held Georgia to 28 points
Georgia very clearly didn’t really try against Austin Peay. Our defense is vulnerable up the middle and throwing at Redmond though. I might try moving McMurray to the outside next week and having Boo play the nickel full time. Redmond might be good in time, but he isn’t ready for big time ball. Which is to be expected.

At least with the injuries we have now. And even with injuries, giving up 500 yards to Stockton and that offense at home is putrid.

This pass defense is awful and has been shredded by Angeli and Stockton. Almost 600 yards passing given up in just two games against QBs that aren’t close to the best we’ll see this year.

There’s nothing in the middle of this defense either. The DTs we have left get swallowed up and Telander looks like he runs a 5.0 40. He’s slow and got roasted all game. And for some reason we want to play a walk on 20 snaps a game at LB despite all the young guys we have recruited. That is unexplainable.

If Hobbs, Moi, and McCoy can’t come back, this is going to be a very bad defense that gets killed all year. Horribly disappointed in Banks and what he’s doing right now, we should not have regressed this far.
Mean while vandy is beating the **** of SC

What a bad take dude…. Eff off. We played solid against Uga honestly. We could have made more tackles I’ll say that. We played a true freshman at corner in Redmond..
If you wanna say we got gashed on the ground sure… Uga will do that to every team
The missed tackles were my biggest complaint on defense.

It’s almost as if we played the #6 team in the country….
Nah that has nothing to do with it according to some around here. Our injuries in the DL and secondary? Means nothing. It’s oh Banks sucks. Even though he is easily the best DC we have had in a very long time. Even with our injuries it took everything UGA had to squeak out a victory.

Their back was weird.. like I felt some plays he was the best back in the country and then on that 3rd down he didn’t get a 1 yard first and ran sideways.. I legit couldn’t tell if he was good or just a big ole boy getting 3 and a cloud of dust

I think an honest assessment of the defense is:

1. We can see the dropoff at DT (even if we were healthy) is pretty significant compared to last year. We look smaller / we are younger with the injuries / we can’t stop the power run up the middle (Syracuse even did this to UT so it’s not just that we played UGA).

2. Without Gibson / McCoy we are very susceptible at corner - more teams will now pick on Redmond from the jump.

3. Our talent at safety is - at best -
Mid level for the SEC. Maybe not even that.

4. We don’t tackle well in space too much.

5. Carter is a player at LB . . . Herring shows promise. Telander is physical but slow for SEC LB play.

Overall - before injuries - this defense, talent wise, is at best a middle of the pack defense in the SEC. With the injuries / lack of depth, we are not even that.

Last year, the defense carried the offense. This year the offense will have to carry the defense.

Until UT is really good / has true depth on both sides of the ball . . . They will be 7-5 to 9-3 team with annual losses to the big boys. With our lack of offense last year, it was a great job by our coaches to get to 10-2.
