This class comes down to one thing...

Well you are a well below average poster, so the Vols beat the **** out of you signing day.

Oh and the difference between Jones and Miles is Jones has a job right now.

Not even close. Obviously you like to ignore facts. The quality of our recruits were average. The only reason we were ranked as high as we were is quantity. Not quality.

Butler and Bennett will eat. Stand back and watch.

What are you basing this assessment on? They look like decent players, but not game changers. Butch dropped the ball on Jordan Williams on Justin Foster earlier in the recruiting cycle. Foster was ready to commit at one point. The Gaddys tanking out on their grades hurt as well.

My opinion and the coaches but you may disagree with us.

I don't start a lot of threads anymore but I thought this topic was worth its own discussion...

In all of my years of following recruiting I'm not sure I've ever seen one class be so thoroughly defined by one player...and that player (IMO) was Tee Higgins...

Adding Higgins would have only bumped us to about #12 in the various rankings so it's not like we are suddenly top 5 with him...but there's more to it than just the ranking...we lost a 5 star can't miss talent out of back yard in a highly public fashion...and then to add insult to injury our 5 star WR leaves early for the draft...leaving a gaping hole that Higgins would have filled perfectly...

Maybe it's just me...maybe the rest of you see other significant holes that would still bother you even if we landed Higgins...but to me it's simply comes down to him...add him to this class and I'm celebrating a really good and perfectly acceptable NSD...losing him made this class below average and disappointing to me
We wont be getting a elite WR or RB with this offense the top recruits will look at HURD and PW and thats enough to run them of but i give coach credit he recruited to his system trading 2 5 stars for 2 3 stars and forgot about the qb we once had:thud:But these 3 stars player have 5 star players heart:eek:lol:but in the end i really might tweak the system to get the top recruits but we wont because we scored more points this year than we every have keep those 3 star and stud walk on linebacker's coming :clapping:maybe next time with a 21-7 lead over that power house Vandy with sugar bowl berth on line maybe we wont blow it you know vandy did finish 14th in recruiting not the nation the SEC:rock:but my old azz still loves the VOLS GO VOLS BUCK BAMA AND SAINT NICK:clapping:

Not the way rankings work. Just rate 20.

Looking at it that way just reiterates everything. Out of the 20, we had 1 5* and 4 4*s. So thats 15 3* players. Woefully below average. Our average quality of recruits were only a little bit above South Carolina. Sad.

247 composite is not the end-all in recruiting. Like it has been said a million times, 9 other kids have received a 4th star from other "recruiting experts". IMO, a kid with 27 sacks and a Parade AA, like Butler is a stud.

We filled our needs with quality depth. Am I ecstatic with this class? No. But, in 3 years, 90% of u all, are going to say, "that 2017 class was a lot better than I thought"

No problem...Calloway, Johnson, Williams, Murphy, Fant, Palmer are all as good as Higgins...the Vols offense won't miss a beat...plus we have Jennings, Byrd, Smith and Wolf to throw to.

People just can't get it into their head that almost half our class is ranked a 4 star by one service or the other. Yes talent is important, but some of you all obsess over their star ranking by every service. The services aren't always right and very subjective overall, and coaches and staff no more about the players that all the board posters will ever know. I fell good about the class, in a couple of years we will see how good it is. GBO!!!!!

Take out the kicker (kickers are 3* max) and the blue shirt and it's exactly half.

1 5*
12 4*
13 3*

Yeah Butler and Bennet didn't have offers...Butler had 27 sacks last year how many did you have?

That's a stupid question. How does that have any relevance as to whether they are going to make an impact in the SEC? How many of those offers were committable offers? What kind of competition was he playing when he got all of those sacks?

Not to mention, did you even play competitive sports? And by play, I mean actually see time on the field, court, etc and not just show up with a uniform during picture day. A lot of big talk coming from your end.

I played d line as if that matters. Go ahead and discount their film and production, it doesnt bother me.

It doesn't matter. It matters about as much as asking if I had 27 sacks last year. And I'm not discounting anything. Just not going to make these kids out to be more than what they are. And have you ever seen bad film? Generally film is designed to make every recruit look like a million bucks. If you want to act as if Butch has unearthed 23 diamonds in the rough feel free. I'm just tired of taking up for a guy that is seemingly regressing and making defiant statements such as 'life champions' and '5 star heart'. He's had 4 years to improve this program, and we seem to have possibly peaked. Hope I'm wrong.

Sad to see you fall to the dark side. Hope you are wrong also. I personally will go down with the ship because I don't like feeling negative about a thing I love and the consternation about this class is extreme and unwarranted, especially before any of them even step on the field.

Start catering to 5 stars and a coach can lose control. It's part of Fulmer's demise. It was part of the problem with Hurd and Williams. The class is a good one. Chandler and Smith are special. At this stage of rebuilding player character does count and CBJ focuses on getting guys they evaluate as team players from winning programs. The principle was probably reinforced by the experience of 2016.
