This change in college football is not good for UT.

So, we are scared of expansion? How hard and far have we fallen to worry about players that TEXAS A&M will be taking?? Seriously??

People are pretty well conditioned to accept all the "experts" opinions on everything....unfortunately, college football is not an exception. "Expansion is good for markets and your team" is just propaganda for "some of us with tons of money can make even more and you must accept the reality of it". College football to me has been one of the few regional spectacles that is still (except for most of the expansion craziness of the last few years) much like it has always been-bragging rights and rivalries. Not stagnant, just traditional and regional. Nothing I see in proposed expansion is for the good of the *fans* of conferences, really...it's only pimped out for someone(s) to ca$h in on a popular dynamic. I will accept it because I have to, but they won't blow smoke up my butt and get me to believe my college football experience is enhanced because some groups of people "make more new market bucks!" or have " greatly increased revenue in new market!". It's not better, it's worse in every respect-except increased income for whomever. It's watered-down and anemic and I guess pretty soon will just be the NFL with younger, (semi) unpaid players. Too bad, but at least I won't be suckered into believing it's somehow better that a team from Texas belongs in the SEC because talking heads are specifically directed to make me swallow it. Forcefeeding for bucks. It's not for fans at all, it's for $$$.
If the SEC must expand, reach out to southeastern teams...there are several who would make a great fit. What am I saying? A&M has the $$$, size, congroups and the pushers going strong-it's probably a done deal. SEC $teamrolled by one of the countless "aggies" teams in the country.

My sentiments exactly, Butros. Adding these 2-4 proposed teams may or may not hurt us in recruiting or whatever, but I fail to see where it will help the Big Orange. That's the ONLY thing I care about. All I see is it messing with our schedules by having to add another conference game or something. Then, if you're having to play another conference tough game every year, you can go ahead and get used to playing the UTC's of the world on a regular basis. Good inter-conference games will be a thing of the past with the super conferences.
Secondly, if we go ahead and make it 14 teams as some suggest, we would probably regularly have situations where the representative for the East (or whatever it will be called then) in the SEC championship game will have not played a team it tied with in its own division.
Lastly, the SEC has nothing to prove to anyone. Its definitely not broke and doesn't need fixing. I couldn't care less if the big money folks who make all the contracts are leaving some of their money on the table. Am I scared of change? Sure, probably a little. But a lot of times change just for the sake of change doesn't work out for the best.
I think all of the people getting excited about expanding the SEC are the same type that celebrate when Alabama wins the national title!

Hey, dood....I personally would love to schedule T A&M in any sport. Good traditions, good teams in all sports, enthusiastic fans...and we currently don't play any service teams...and they are basically that. That would be a great addition OOC. Wish we could start a series with them. Fact is, they just don't belong in the SEC as a member school, IMO.

One could argue that they don't belong in the sec for reasons of tradition, or geography, but most people posting on the subject the last few days have argued against it for sporting or recruiting reasons.

I was merely pointing out that Tennessee has a proud tradition of having one of the toughest schedules every year and has never turned down a game, at least to my knowledge, until UNC. That was a mistake and I hope that we never turn down a challenge again.

Mostly, I am tired of the pi**ing and moaning that everybody does about crap that doesn't matter. I am not sure if they are young and only know about the last 10 years, but I am pretty sure they have no idea what it means to be a Tennessee Volunteer if they are worried about competing. I don't care if we win every game, but I don't ever want to see us shy away from playing again.

Having a SEC team in TX would help SEC recruiting as a whole in TX, not hurt. And as much as I like (or at least don't dislike) Vandy, A&M would be a great replacement. I know they're not talking about dumping a team but for the life of me I have no idea what Vandy is doing in the SEC anyway.
