This article explains why UT football has been in decline...and it's not due to coaching

We get top 10-15 classes all the time and perform like we're getting the 100th ranked class. Sounds like coaching to me.
Recruiting has never been a problem for tennessee when it is winning. If we have good coaches and players see us looking good we would not be having problems recruiting. Recruiting is not the problem, many teams consistently play better with less talent than we got. GBO!

1) Legendary HOF coach is fired= embarrassment
2) Kiffin bolts in the dead of night after year 1= embarrassment
3) No one wants the job after 1 and 2 so Tennessee settles for Dooley= embarrassment
4) Derek Dooley runs the program into the ground and gets fired. Tennessee yet again can’t close the deal with any solid football coach and is forced to settle for Butch Jones= embarrassment
5) Butch Jones gets fired which leads to the most embarrassing coaching search saga in college football history= embarrassment

Don’t give me this Tennessee can’t recruit bs as the reason for the decline. The decline falls 100% at the feet of the administration and boosters.

Per rivals over the past three years UT has averaged a #15 ranked recruiting class and Florida has averaged a #12 recruiting class. Both Mullen and Pruitt were hired in 2017 so these are their classes. Florida is playing in Atlanta for a playoff spot. We are playing tomorrow to see who the worst team in the SEC is going to be. Tell me again how it is not about coaching.
This is so spot on.

As a further example, in 2016 TN recruited and landed the #3 Dual Threat QB, Jarrett Guarantano. Alabama had to settle for a kid ranked #9-10.

Fast forward to 2020, JG is struggling to keep his starting job on one of the worst teams in the SEC.

That #9-10 ranked Dual Threat QB will be starting Sunday for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Aside from Lane Kiffin, our other 3 head coaches over the past 12 years have won exactly zero games as a head coach, after leaving. They are not exactly hot commodities.

The nerd at Mizzu in his first year has his team looking like they are deep in year 2 with less talent....while Pruitt has this team looking straight Year One 2.0....it’s straight coaching 110% it always has been and always will be.

People have become extremely lazy over the last 8 months. My guess is he rolled off the couch last minute, quickly threw this garbage together before deadline, hit the send button, got back to channel surfing.
GBO!!
Could be. He could sure use a proofreader. In general, I would agree that it seems like the demand for lame writing on the internet is more than ever. The volume is there and the quality is just awful.

Its coaching. Our current coach put us in a position where we had to rely on the most disastrous QB in football history and waited until its too late to finally freakin bench him.

Overall I dont think Pruitt is as bad as Dooley and Butch, he comes close because he put the program in the hands of JG and thus it is inexplicable that he did so and should be fired for that as he has put us in a whole that just looks way too deep for a third year coach.

This poster is 1000% correct! Why anybody can't see this is beyond me. To drill down a little further it is the administration and two key boosters! Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out! Folks the sad truth is we are not getting better any time soon unless there are major changes behind the scenes. Coaches around the nation know this. This is why we will never get a competent coach to come here.

If the talent level of each member team is roughly equivalent, the revenue stream of each member school is roughly equivalent, and the facilities of each member school are roughly equivalent, it only leaves one important variable.
Exactly

1. Legendary HOF coach fired 3 seasons too late - embarrassment
2. CLK bolts in the dead of night after 1 year, the way our AD handled it - embarrassment
3. Hiring Dooley in desperation instead of naming Kippy interim - embarrassment

It’s been all down hill from there and 1 root cause. Fulmer was successful in getting Hamilton the AD job.

Very true.

However, I think Hamilton telling Gary Patterson no was the start of our downfall.

Fulmer had a 24-15 record in his last 3 seasons, went 3-6 against GA, FL, AL and got Tennessee to an SEC title game. Even at his worst; Fulmer was the best coach we’ve had in my lifetime. I hated the firing when it happened and I will always view it as the biggest mistake in Tennessee football history.
