ok, it's Wed of Bama week, and i just don't think enough is being discussed ABOUT THE GAME itself.....this thread is not for TV issues or what happened last year or 50 years ago.

what is going to happen Saturday? how big of an impact will NS make in year 1? will it be enough to thwart a team on Bama's schedule that they need to beat?

Which TN will show up? the one from the 1st 3 weeks or the one from the last 3 weeks? Can EA make it thru this game sack free yet again? can our D handle the running game and DJ Hall?

my take:
I think we're a bit more battle tested than the Tide. I think we've seen enough as a team that there's not much they can throw at us we won't be somewhat prepared for. We've also already been in 2 real road games this season, so Bryant Denny won't be AS daunting.

I like what i'm seeing from the O line, RB's and EA lately. I expect that to continue. I also think the play calling has been much much better the past two weeks and judging from Cuts comments earlier this week, the plan is to be aggressive and dicate pace, running and throwing. i expect Rodgers to have a good game after a mediocre perf. at MSU. and i expect Foster and Hardesty to be another solid 1, 2 punch.

the question is......can our defense find it's GA game form and have good pursuit and tackle in the open feild? we've seen 1 game of 6 where they did that. Big receivers, DJ Hall, can give our secondary trouble, and i am thinking they are going to test Vinson and Berry with some of their size and experience. JPW....has been prone to throwing INT's. we almost got at least 4 last week. i think we need to starting making those picks sooner or later and this week is as good a place as any to start. would also like to see some pressure on the qb a little earlier on.

and finally......special teams. they have an excellen return game and we've been the least consistent in this phase of the game....muffed punts, punt returns for TD's, missed fg's etc....can't afford that any longer. I think TN has the edge in all phases but this one, and this is where Bama can steal points and feild position.

but i think you have to look at it and say TN is probably better than Bama. that hasn't always mattered in the history of this series. playing at Bryant Denney is a plus for the tide, as the home crowd will be fired up and ready. I look for us to quiet them down early and take momentum.

No turnovers. no drive killing penalties and we must continue to be as efficient on 3rd down as we have been of late.
outcome.....TN grinds one out 31-20.

CPF has always viewed the UAT game as a special spot on the schedule. He will have our team as ready as possible.

I can't help wonder what is going on down in Tuscalooser. Reports are that CNS is not prepping his team any different than other games. I believe this is a mistake. The fanfare surrounding this week is very different.

Having watched every snap of UT football this season and most of the UAT games, the better team is obvious. But UT has had better teams most of this century and we still play very close games with UAT.

I think the game will be decided based on which JPW shows up. One that is calm/cool/collected, or one that looks lost on the field. This kid could be a servicable QB, but so far this year he has looked terrible. He has command of the offense for two or three drives a game. That will change at some point and he will put a complete game together - hopefully not this week.

If we can put pressure on JPW, it will be a very long day for UAT. He has shown more often than not, he is not ready to handle SEC football. Hopefully that will continue.

I believe our D will hold the UAT running game down. Our front seven are figuring out how to play together. They have lane and gap lapses still, but overall they are getting the job done - finally.

Prediction: UT-17, UAT-3 at the half. UT-31, UAT-17 final.

I have only one prediction. We'll run the ball about 45 times Saturday.

UT wins in a slugfest 24-23.

And don't look for us to stop running. The average rank of the rushing defenses left on the schedule is 78th with Bama being the highest at 40th.

I haven't got a clue. But I'm eager to see Tennesse take this test.

I think...

*Saban is too arrogant not to set his DBs in man and test Ainge. A mistake.

*Ainge is the answer in this one. He and Cut have this system tuned and multiple. The offense is on the brink of being special. Good time to prove it.

*I'll be surprised if we top 120 yards total rushing.
This is pass first on Saturday.

*Brown and Rogers get some middle seams to run into. Receptions in the middle of the field would be refreshing to see.

*Captain Demonte Bolden leads a solid effort.

*Everyone else's ends are smacking JPW, why not ours.

*Berry is ready to shine.

Tennessee. 34-16

OWH: I agree. Berry is ready to shine.

If we can run it as effectively as we have the past two weeks, i'm ok with that.

I think we are 12 of 13, so that's actually an advantage.

that's kind of where i am too....would really like to see us get some pressure on him early....last week we didn't get significant pressure on him until well in to the 2nd half, the only sack came late in the 4th while they were down by 12.

can't do that again......

yeah, i'm probably being harsh i guess.....but the one Lincoln missed at MSU was a chip shot and he just shanked it.

safe to say, i don't want to see that again.....esp. from here on out where the comp. will be a little bit better.

You can throw out the stats for this one. Hard fought defensive struggle but I expect TN's D to show a 4Q surge and smother the turds.

Tennessee 20 - Sabammer 14

I have quit doing the Predictions this year.

I have been wrong so many times this year, that I dont even want to try it this week.

I am curious what effect the 11:30 kickoff time will have on the game. The team that comes to play early will win this one in a slugfest.

My prediction: Bammers will continue to wonder whether that big-a$$ contract they gave Saban was such a good idea after we win.
Go Vols!!!

They won't stop run or pass consistently. They don't have the qb to keep up with us.

Vols 31
Bammers 13

I hope we establish the run early, and get a comfortable lead going into the half...When the stack up the box, we hit them for a few big plays to stretch the field...If we are able to do these things and keep Castille quiet I think we win 30-16

I believe UT wins big. I haven't predicted UT to win by more than 10 points all year, but I just think UT will come out and blow the doors off Bama before reverting to the run in the second half.

As stated earlier, every other defensive front gets on JPW, so why not UT's? Ben Martin and Robert Ayers will have big games this weekend.

Ainge will come out flinging the ball around. I look for Chris Brown to have several catches over the middle and Arian and Montario to have around 225 yards combined.

I'm just feeling really optimistic about this game for some reason.

Yeah, treating the Alabama game differently than the other games on the schedule always worked out so well for Johnny Majors. Saban doesn't treat the game any differently because he could give a damn less about all the sentimental blather about the General and the Bear and the Third Saturday In October. He's a football coach, not a historian.

Given the recent history in this rivalry - I expect the Vols to win an ugly affair.

This game means far more to Fulmer. A loss erases much of the goodwill of the Georgia win. Saban can afford a loss as most knowledgable Bama fans (?oxymoron) expected only 6-7 wins this year.

BTW heard Johnny Majors on Huntsville radio today. He said he's not going to watch the game but go phesant hunting in South Dakota. He called Fulmer a traitor but said very nice things about Mike Hamilton. Prediction after Fulmer leaves they will retire Johnny's number.
