...yes we all hate bama and bama hates us. however, bama sees us and this game as a "small" bump in the road and simply an "annoying fly". this game - we are trying to make it significant again and it just isn't. we are down, way down and they are up, way up - the gap is enormous. the bama people i know are laughing at us at our total irrelevance to the football world. so, the third saturday in october is just another weekend and game to them. to them the rivalry isn't a rivalry anymore.

so you didn't view it as a rivalry when UT was beating bama for a few years in a row?

Yeah that's why they are protesting Missouri joining the SEC because they don't want to lose the UT series :ermm: Think before you speak.

i did, but they don't

no we didn't. When Fulmer was killing whatever tripe of the week AL was trotting out for the decade prior to Saban, we didn't care. We cared about UF and we cared about UGA. We only cared about AL to the extent that they might be competitive or that Fulmer might pull his gagging act.

so when the talent gap was huge and UT was reeling off 7 in a row you still viewed it as a rivalry but the current bama fans don't?

and for the record, all the ones I know still view it as a great rivalry

As it was the same for us up til 2005. Every program goes thru down times. They went thru it and we owned them. N.Dame,Nebraska,LSU,Florida St,etc has all went thru it. Our day will come soon again and there day will be dark again. It's the reality of the sport and college football.

Every Bama fan I know views UT as their chief rival along-side Auburn. Some see it as a push, others view Auburn as more and others view UT as more.

This... Make no mistake, the average Tide fan hates Tennessee with a burning passion. At least half of them more than Auburn. Period. I think they are getting more enjoyment out of our current situation than we got when they sucked, but that's our fault for taking for granted that they would be down forever.

Not really even - Finebaum has built a career off of the hate between Bama and Auburn....the same can't be said of Bama v UT

We have defeated bama more than anybody, even more so than the barn. I am pretty sure that is accurate. We just haven't beaten them recently, and auburn has.

There's enough hate on both sides to call it a rivalry.

you're exactly right, it's amazing how stupid the bama fans and some auburn fans are when it comes to slimebaum. they can't see this guy as the fraud he is.

The Bama friends I have were texting me this past Saturday before their game was finished saying, "The fat lady has not sung yet, but the third week in October has already begun." They may not think we have a shot this week, but they do still think of TN as a rivalry and love this week.

Don't count me as part of that "we" group. I've always cared more about the Bama game than any other game of the regular season, and I don't see that changing anytime soon as long as the SEC keeps the game alive.

I was at a concert in Philadelphia last Friday and I was wearing my UT hat. And out of nowhere I heard this girl and her boyfriend A couple rows behind yelling Roll tide, roll tide, they yelled it about 8 times. I just turned around and laughed. It surprised me because the people up here don't take college football serious like it is in the south. I do though and apparently the bama fans from philly do too.

OP is uh, well let's just say mis-informed. Trust me, i have been to this game every other year for 25 or so years. And they do not take this game for granted. Ever. There are other games that they do take for granted (KY, Ole miss, GA, etc.). But, this one, no. Two years ago they got out of the game because of a couple of blocked field goals. Otherwise, no bump in the road at all. The bama fans for the most part are pretty hospitable. But others will be pushing us around, calling us names, calling our coach fat (up until 2009), throwing stuff at us, etc. They do not think of UT as a bump in the road. It is more of a Must-win or commit suicide kind of feeling.
