Never thought I'd have to say this, but Neyland Game day inside the stadium has sucked for a while. Actually from the vol walk in. I hate the barricades they put up by the parking lot because it kills a chance if you don't get there an hour early of seeing anyone. And then there is the PA announcer. Sounds like the EA sports generic dude they had for NCAA games. No character, no mystique. And then there's sterl the pearl.... No No and No. Piping some new age tunes in isn't bad, bud the whole sideline eh thing was a gimmick. He'll we has a slash wannabe play at the 2014 UT/UF game and as I thought it was neat, I was left trying to figure out its purpose. No more "Welcome to Rocky Top" dang it.... It's Fooball time in Tennessee! Bury the gimmicky nonsense. Its overplayed and its cool factor is gone.
Now I've always been told come with solutions, so here are my 3 quick fixes. Set up movable bleachers along the wall for the vol walk, make it such an atmosphere that nobody can contend with it. Please find an announcer that can at least do the Bobby Denton catchphrase so it can live on and another generation can enjoy it like I did. And finally, only play upbeat motivation music in the pregame, and get in sync with the band and make the atmosphere electric for 60 mins. Yes ultimately talent wins ballgames, but having the atmosphere that brings them in or makes worry can't hurt either.
My apologies for the legnth, but I'm shocked nobody else has mentioned stuff like this. If I'm just repeating someone well then you aren't alone.
