So...last year we were screaming about having the play calling that ALWAYS put us in 3rd and Long situations.

Now that we have solved that problem, we can't get the 3rd and SHORT play calling right.

Our 3rd and Short/Throw deep mentality is a terribly obvious pattern of decisions that appears to be some desperate reaction to drastically change the momentum in the game. I find it to be annoying because we can't capitalize on momentum that is handed to us during the coarse of the game. It happened during the FL, GA, MS St, and now AL games....what's the common denominator? ALL ARE LOSSES!

We have zero ability to capitalize on opportunities that are handed to us on a silver platter.

On 3rd and short...run the MF'n ROCK!!!

You got it wrong. On 3rd and 1 on the opponents 30 and a chance to get within 1 score, the plan of attack should always be:

1. Waste a timeout.
2. Kill momentum for a second time by running more deep routes and throwing it out of bounds
3. Wildcat with our lb where the D knows with 100% certainty that the ball will be run in between the tackles.

That's how you coach it up. You guys know nothing.

3rd and short:

Other teams: Run the ball, run short passing routes past first down marker

TN: throws 50 yard vertical, runs wildcat, never runs past first down marker on pass play

At least run that linebacker twice and not waste the down going 30yrds downfield.

This!!! 4. Never ever throw to the short route who is open 5 yrds away, DON'T DO IT.

5. Throw to double coverage when u have an open player in the corner of the endzone.

why can't we just throw short passes/bubble screens/slants like everyone else? Did that part of Chaney's playbook get eaten by the dog?

I totally agree Jake. You know as well as I, that's a coaching decision! Seems to me he has made way too many of those bad decisions the past couple of years. Don't mean to beat Dooley down but maybe we should go after Gruden before someone else snatches him up.

Yep...great guy, nice family, thank you for the integrity....not an SEC head coach.

He's probably going to make someone a great Athletic Director some day.
