Refer back to the Arky game last year.....This team from the head coach on down.....quit again! Two punts towards the end of the game! Yeah maybe it was already decided but what kind of message are you sending to your players? Ainge on 4th down throws the ball out of bounds (again). Throw it up ...so what if it gets picked atleast try and make a play! Your stats won't suffer much! And finally Jonathon Heffney has mailed it in!!!! But yet still has the nerve to talk smack but lacks the same nerve to even feild a punt!

Beef, if you are reading this........Is the staff not teaching these kids the history of the third Saturday in October? How can you not be pumped and ready for this game?

Agreed, just like the Florida game, I felt like the coaching staff quit in the 4th quarter. There were still over 10 minutes left when Bama went up by 21. Why put in reserve receivers that were cluess (#83 dropped 2 passes and clearly others ran wrong routes).

Just watching the Titans vs Texans game shows that you should never quit.

Well I will say that Briscoe and Taylor were both hurt so they get a pass on that one (from me). Hey.... how many people watching that game didn't know a reverse was coming when Oneal came into the game?

I didn't realize it until well after the game, but Taylor and Briscoe were both banged up and it really exposed our lack of experience and depth at WR. It also explains part of why the offense looked so bad in the 4th quarter.

i think what stood out to me more than that was the fact that we didn't go for the 1st down on the ensuing 4th down and 1 from the Bama 47.

this game was the classic "coach NOT to lose" game that made CPF famous in the 90's against Spurrier and FL.

you could just tell the pucker factor on the sidelines was set on HIGH, and they coached that way.

There is little doubt that the coaching staff thought they had the matchups to go smash mouth. Alabama's quick start threw a huge wrench into the way they thought the game would evolve.

Its obvious they can't coach from behind!

what would have fooled everyone would have been to send oneal straight down the field...guess that's not in the playbook yet...must be to hard

why not run a reverse, I mean Foster was only getting about 10 yards a carry off tackle. It just makes sense to stop doing what is working. doesn't it ?

To the original post:

The decision to run Creer is one of the more baffling things to me last Saturday.

As a Bama fan, one of my biggest surprises Saturday (other than the fact the team played well and actually won the game) was when Coach Fulmer punted rather than go for it on 4th down late in the game. It was obvious to fans of both Alabama and Tennessee that the Tide was controlling the ball and the punting allowed more of the time to be controlled by Bama. I, and none of the Bama fans around me, could understand why he did not go for it on 4th. In fact we all wondered what message it was sending to the team. Kind of like we felt when Shula chose to go for a field goal with 4th and 1 against Auburn last year when we were ahead in the game, it sent a message to our offense that Shula did not have confidence in them.
On another note, I look forward to the day when the Alabama/Tennessee rivalry can return to being a true rivalry without all the hatred from the fans on both sides. Living in North Alabama with tons of Vol fans close, this game used to be a lot of fun for the fans of both schools, win or lose. Now there is so much hatred on both sides that a lot of the real fun has gone out of it!!!

good 1st post, for a bammer.:p

and i agree. this game was coached as if it were 30 years ago. punt, play defense and hope some breaks go your way. it was utterly frustrating watching us punt, and punt and punt. the TOP disparity was apparent to everyone except our coaches apparently. oh well. no use in stewing about it any more, it ain't gonna change, and we are what we are at this point.

and as to the "hatred", i think you're right, but in this series where it's so streaky, both fan bases get pretty touchy whne it comes to this game.....add the legal aspects of CPF's involvment in Bama's probation, it's understandable why these two fan bases just don't like each other.

having said that, my oldest friend from childhood is an Ole Miss alum and Bama fan since birth.

i think both fan bases have their fair share of morons. the ability to determine which ones aren't and conversing with them, is no less an artform, but if done correctly, good football discussion generally comes of it.

welcome to the board.

Being a Bama fan I of course enjoyed the decision but I still couldnt believe it. When tenn punted I was like " holy crap" they are giving up! Never in all of my years have I seen a team or coaching staff give up like that. I never thought Id see it from tenn. That(not that my opinion counts) is the one reason I personally would fire your coach if I was ad at tenn. That only teaches your team to quit. One thing you can say about Bama is that we may have looked awful the last few years but we never gave up.

I was livid after I saw the 3rd down call with Creer when Foster was well rested on the sidelines and had been tearing of chunks of yards. Then the punt sent me to the brink of losing it. I thought it was a given that when in opponents territory, out of field goal range, on short yardage situations you always go for it, escpecially when trailing. I guess that's only for coaches who haven't turned in their stones years ago.

Thanks for the welcome and I agree with your points. I hope the Vol fans were treated well on your trip to T Town.
We have our share of rude and obnoxious fans but all Bama fans are not that way!!

The Creer call on 3rd and 1 made me puke. Not going for it on 4th and 1 on the next play made me dry heave.

After being Sabannized Saturday, you come to realize that all big pressure games tend to lend to play calls that fail to make sense.Several times Saturday I would have gone for it.That flea flicker wasted call was a joke. Our defensive coverage on punts and kick offs is terrible.I just don't see why we can't make proper adjustments with that.I mean we know we stink at it.Now I'm concerned about our future games with Alabama, seeing how they are 6-2 under Saban's first year in SEC championship contention, and only one year of his recruits.I still don't understand why we fail blitz more when a team is picking us apart.

We blitzed all day long, that was the problem. We kept bringing people all day even though they weren't getting to the QB. If you blitz and don't get there in time it is easy for a QB to find an open receiver, you simply go to the side where the blitz came from.

well allvol,

I don't appreciate you putting the whole game on the freshman wide recievers. If you watched the game and know anything about football it was clearly a defensive problem. I think the guys did what they needed to do. In the 4th quarter I hardly think you can fault freshmen for the loss. Thanks!!! Yours truly volmom.

ps I try not to post but this made me a little upset

Are one of the receivers your son for you to take it so personal?

I don't think allvol was blaming the freshmen. He was probably blaming the coaches for putting them in that situation. I know I blame the coaches. Third and one you put in a freshman with very little college experience instead of your hoss of a back who is averaging 7 yds a carry.
