Higher speed=bigger pie. If you are running more devices over a network, then you are going to need a higher speed/more bandwidth to handle everything. If you are running your whole house basically over wifi, 3mbps would cause a total system shut down at my house so I need a higher speed which gives me a bigger pie so I can accommodate everything. In Chattanooga 50mbps is basically the standard speed.
I agree that 50 down is well more than most people could even conceive of utilizing, but one would need a damn sight more than three down to stream hd Netflix or play PS3 online. If you're playing PS3 online with 3 down, I feel bad for the poor schmuck getting all the lag on the other end of the line.
I guess your not the expert you think. Been doing it for years. I've played guys on this MB online without a hiccup.
If you'd like, I can procure multiple people who put food on their table working with the exact subject we're on about and confirm that you're talking out of your ass.
Either you're lying or your broadband access is a whole lot better than you realize.
Honestly the best internet really is LTE. I pulled 50mpbs down the other night from my iPhone and average around 30 during peak times.
Speeds may be great but the cost for data cap isn't worth it as a main option. The biggest data usage I have is streaming Netflix, a few other shows or sports (I don't have cable) and occasional music. My data usage with Comcast is around 50GB average. I was blown away when I found out it was that much.
If you are happy with 3Mbps, that's great. I can tell you from a technical standpoint in working with networks and computers everyday, that faster is better, period. Also, as far as your Netflix is concerned, they have a throttler installed on there end, that does a speedtest every time you try to watch a movie, and if that throttler determines you don't have the bandwidth for HD it takes it down to 480p. If you believe you are watching true HD movies on Netlix with a 3Mbps connection, then you are sorely mistaken. Continue on though.
