Thinking about getting a dog or two...

Are you looking for purebreds or are you considering mixed as well. My dad may have some pups to give away in the next couple weeks. He hasn't seen them yet, but the breed mix is a crap shoot.

Labs shed too much, best dog I've had is a Golden Doodle, the Golden Lab/Standard Poodle mix. A good line breeds out the hip dysplasia (sp?) and most of the shedding goes away. The dogs are great with kids and are extremely intelligent.

Their baying can get quite loud but we love that sound. Whenever we take them for a ride and RV or I get out of the van to go in a store, the ensuing screams from what sounds like two seals make everyone turn around. People even come out of the store to see what the heck it is. Then they come over and get kissed to death.:eek:lol:

We had an american foxhound named Richie who died a few months ago from diabetes. His front shoulders were massive because he didn't use his back feet to swim and he ended up weighing about 120 pounds. He would bark, bay, and howl all night and most of the day, but I loved that damn dog (though our neighbors wife wasn't fond of it at night).

Kids and labs go well. I have a 13 yr old that has seen 3 new babies being brought into the home.

BTW, I haven't seen some of the dogs pictured here. I can't imagine the loads they lay down.

I have two Beagles, named Dugout and Garbanzo. They bark quite a bit, but they're good, good dogs.

+1 We have a great golden doodle ourselves. Low/no shed, perfect family dog.

I am about to get a beagle mix. Gonna name her Samus. Any pro-tips for this sort of dog?

Thanks for the offer man! I'm going to wait until I rip the carpet out of my house before I make a commitment. I haven't decided if I'm going to finish the concrete beneath or put in laminate. I would love to put in real hard wood floors, but my house is on a slab and the cost would just be too much. This is a story for another thread tho.

I really think I'm going with Beagles and go with General and Neyland (thanks SDV). I also briefly considered naming them SNAFU and FUBAR. :)

I guess I'm partial because I have two, but boxers are great pets. If I didn't get a boxer, I'd probably get a lab.

Believe it or not, my Blueticks are so modest they only poop in the woods.

My lab/airedale is too lazy and worthless, but my lab/shepherd is just the right mix of alertness and people-friendly
