High profile coach, huge fanbase. Winning season last year..

What gives? We need some perspective folks. Gundy's badass cowbodys, who would have beat the brakes off of us last year, came in at 33..

Pruitt is an actual football coach, and the players are going to improve..

Oklahoma States average class ranking over the last 5 years is around 40. Only once in the top 30 and just as many above 40.

You make some good points. However, I would ask you if we are still in the business of trying to win championships? When is the last time OSU won the Big 12? Their expectations are different. I would assume that UM has championship expectations and should be pissed!
I got your point, though... it could always be worse, but I'm still pissed at this quality of this class. We didn't get better today, IMO.

In the SEC recruiting is everything. Teams in other conferences can get away with crap classes. Not in the SEC.

Have you been to Michigan? Cold and miserable. Economically depressed. People are *******s.

No I aint aight..

They are in my mind and big Colosseum of rabid fans led by a pretty respected big name coach. Ya know..

I see your point though I never saw them as having much of an obstacle like that in recruiting

interesting

I see your point too...

My hope is that Pruitt can Gundy this better than average class and leverage us into some wins through player development and unity and being a players coach thats strict sort of a thing

Agree with you about Michigan, something is not right. Gundy has always recruited to his system and coaches his guys up regardless of star ranking. Gundy is a good coach. Time will tell with CJP and his staff. By year two we should have a pretty good idea of his coaching ability.

Same for Wisconsin, but they get coached up and win. They can out physical almost anybody but they struggle with teams that have a lot of speed. They don't match up well.

They don't play Alabama, Florida, and Georgia every year, and they usually lose to Oklahoma.

One step at a time, my friend. This staff had, what, two weeks before early signing? Once the early signing period was over, a huge chunk of the recruiting class had been removed from the pool. The ones left for NSD had already been recruited for months and years. Most just took the trip to Knoxville to take a look around and some were impressed enough to consider. Once they got home, it simply wasn't enough to pull them from the schools who had been recruiting them for years.

Between ES and NSD, we ended up with the #20 class, several 4 star recruits and many needs met. This, coupled with the many 4 star players currently on the team is something workable for this staff. And then, next year we have a full recruiting cycle to work with. I don't feel like we're in a bad place at all.

EXACTLY. Tennessee finished 20th and still 8th in the sec meaning almost half if the entire top 20 was sec. Recruiting in the sec is as challenging as it gets.

Exactly. It's a completely different animal in the SEC. In fact, SEC schools should not even concern themselves with where they finish nationally in recruiting. Where they finish in the SEC is the true measure.

I don't disagree with you at all. However just for fun, let me play devil's advocate with you. If that's the case how do you explain Mizzou winning the East 2 years in a row and their late surge last year? Those teams weren't filled with a bunch of 4 and 5 stars.

I've said quite a few times already, but Michigan is probably the most overrated job in America. There is very little home-grown talent. Two of their biggest conference rivals are in much better states for talent (Ohio State and Penn State). And it's a tough sell to convince kids from Florida, California, and Texas to move to Michigan.

And here's the thing; our past two coaches have been disappointing, but no one ever thought Dooley or Jones were "proven hires." Most people thought Dooley was a terrible hire from the start and Butch was a "let's wait and see" type of hire. Michigan's last three hires have all been considered either "home runs" (RichRod, Harbaugh) or "proven coaches" (Brady Hoke) and all three have been disappointing to some degree. At some point, you have to consider that it's just tough to win at Michigan in the 2010's.

That last sentence...what the heck does that mean?
How do you know this?
"An actual football coach" compared to who? Because I KNOW you're not saying that comparing him to Harbaugh and Gundy, right?

Michigan didn't sign many people. They finished 3rd in the Big 10 and 5th in the nation among schools who signed less than 20 kids.

If Pruitt can win like Gundy, I don't care what his recruiting rankings are. But we're a decade of proof away from that.

I mean compared to Butch Jones..who I did not see as much of developer, game day football coach type

This is just my opinion which may not mean much, but I see Pruitt as more of a Gundy type rather than a Butch Jones type (willie taggert type)

Know what im saying? Just my opinion though I think a lot of folks see it this way

Yeah, Optimistic ME says we got a players coach who is tough as nails, with a better than average group of talent..

We gone win some games we shouldn't. Pruitt is taking this opportunity seriously, **see the press conference yesterday..madder than hell

In the SEC we have to recruit well because our coaching can sometimes be subpar. Gary Pinkel at Mizzou killed us year after year with his top 50 recruiting classes... Won the east also...With Kirby Smart there is a new sheriff in town but JP comes from the same "academy".

I put A&M in this boat also.

75 million for Jimbo and that recruiting class? He isn't sniffing a SEC title with that.
