Think Phil's A Little Bitter?

So? Those wins shouldn't count then?

In your mind he's 4-12 in the games that count.... Now I understand the immortal 7-6 Kiffin season.

ALMOST beat Bama if it weren't for the crappy kicker. Played scared against Florida and tried not to have Meyer run up the score on him, then bragged about it... wow! Now I can see the hurt his leaving brought on you Kiffin Fluffers... he will be missed!

8-26 against the upper echelon.

...when Alabama was in one of its worst stretches in school history.

Not sure about SGM, thinks he's a current student at UT, so he doesn't remember having two losing streaks of 11 years and then another 7 against Bama, VD if you've got a kid at UT you remember it...

So you can downplay the significance of it now, but it was a big deal that Fulmer beat Bama

Big notches for Fulmer's ego, but those aren't exactly coaching heavyweights, witness their current status.

It was a bigger deal that he couldn't beat Florida. When the SEC split into divisions, Florida became the most important game on the schedule.

You know, a lot of you haters fell over backwards on the rumor Bob Stoops might be coming here. Remind me, how is different than Fulmer?

1. Can only win in a "two-horse" conference.
2. Can't beat the elite teams in the SEC.
3. Backed into a NC.

Maybe Bob Stoops is another whose legacy teeters on the edge of Legendary, but actually is only Hall-of-Fame worthy. Another one for literature?

Stoops hasn't gone a decade without a conference title.

For one thing, Fulmer isn't anywhere close to legendary, and it remains to be seen if he is HOF worthy. That will be decided in the future, decided by a committee not composed of fans who are devotionally blinded to mediocrity. Stoops would qualify for either category, legendary or HOF, much more easily than the film watcher, who isn't likely to qualify for much.

He's 6-5 against Texas. He's won 6 Big 12 conference championships.

Fulmer was 2-7 against Florida under Spurrier in the 90's. He won 2 SEC conference championships while Spurrier won 6 SEC conference championships.

There's the difference.

Don't forget the undefeated 2000 National Title, which is exactly what Fulmer had done in 1998.

Fulmer - 17 years, 2 Conference Championships, 1 NC, 3 BCS Bowls (Nothing in his last 10 years)

Stoops - 11 years , 6 Conference Championships, 1 NC, 7 BCS Bowls.

fulmer took the program down due to poor recruiting and bad assistant coach hires, then walked away with millions in UT money. What is he bitter about???

He gets a BCS bowl every time he wins his two pony conference!

And, in fact, I'm downgrading it to a 1.5 pony conference. TX wasn't elite enough until circa 2005.

Hey, this is your logic applied to Phil. I didn't think it would hurt so much to see it applied elsewhere.

And, unlike your hero, he is able to win in a two horse conference. Spurrier owned your hero when the SEC was a two-horse race.

Except when he didn't own him and win it all.

Moreover, anyone coaching in Florida, Texas, or California has a huge advantage over everyone else.

Which makes it a moot point to even try this line of reasoning with Mack Brown.

Stoops did a whole lot more for OU than Fulmer has done for UT... You can't argue that.

Now that's the best counterpoint that's been made.

However, let's give Phil some props. Although it was Johnny's best run at the time, Phil did upgrade everything about the Vols, on and off the field when he took over.

If Fulmer had done anything this century you might have a more compelling argument. Face facts, Fulmer hasn't been relevant in a long time.
