I like this list, I also think it is a huge advantage he was AD and Coach. Wearing two hats has to be extremely difficult and at any D1 school. I am sure he knows the rules and will not push the envelope like wonderboy. I do not think we will ever need to worry about the NCAA again. Better yet, I bet we are way off the radar at this point now that Kiffy and Co. are gone! It is so nice that they are USC's problem now and will be feeling the affects of the NCAA hammer afterall!

I admit that I'm looking for reasons to like this guy, and I'm finding quite a few. However, after the pathetic betrayal that just happened, I am a bit gun-shy about trumpeting Coach Dooley's praises. I have little doubt he is a better man than the trash that just left, but I want to wait a bit before any judgment.

Thanks for the list. It's pretty good. Made me laugh (at least #6 and #10 did).

Yeah USC is being looked at by the NCAA and they hire Kiffin who when asked what his biggest problems is since being at Tenn and he said folling the rules, real smart. lol

To quote the movie Christine (cir.1980): "..son, you can't polish a turd." No matter how you try to explain, rationalize this hire...you can't polish a turd. His resume is lack luster if not down-right weak. His teams may "have almost beaten this team and kept that team close"......he may have given LSU a run for a 3 star recruit in Booger-eater, LA, but he is now in the big-boy league. He will be a guppy in a shark tank. I don't care if he almost beat Hawaii or Boise state or whomever....will he beat Satan and Alabama......Florida in the swamp....LSU @ night in Tiger stadium...on national TV? He may be a very likable guy; he proabably has high credibilty....that's nice, but this is the SEC. You do not go from a 4-8 La Tech team to the University of Tennessee....as the forth or fifth option? Bottom line question...if Alabama, Florida, Georgia or even LSU had an opening at HC, would Dooley (or any of the canididates aside from Muschamp) have been on their watch list....the answer is NO!
I wish Coach Dooley luck. Hopefully, I am completely wrong!
Fire Hamilton ASAP.

A Head Coach is only as good as his assistants. We shall see about that. The head man must be intelligent, a hard worker, and honest. Dooley encompasses that. Every great coach had to have a break to begin with. Let's see how DD does before passing judgement.

Last year he lost to Boise by 10, LSU by 7, Fresno State by 2..... all with Louisiana Tech Talent. Not to shabby IMO.

Gemlek I hope you will make a prediction tied to a bet that you never post here again.

You are wrong. Dooley is a credit to his fine parents and will be a great coach at UT.

I will wait to form an opinion, but will fully support CDD. I can say he is alot easier to like than the last turd we had.

I respect the fact he had the guts to take the job, after a half dozen other people turned it down.

I liked Dooley's press conference. He said all the right things. Now that he showed that he can 'talk the talk', he'll have to prove that he can 'walk the walk'.....about how to run a big-time program and how to coach the Xs and Os.

From a LA Tech alum,

I'm really excited about the Derek Dooley hire. Dooley will bring VolNation back to being considered a classy and traditional powerhouse in the years too come. With his focus entirely on the football program instead of the entire Athletic dept. is a positive.

Being born and bred in La. Ive been able to follow Dooley thru out his young career at LSU then Tech and feel UT found a hidden gem in Dooley. He is young, intelligent, hard-working and a relentless recruiter with good holsom family traditions that extends to his Football players and staff.

Volnation expects the best and I believe they got the best. Go get'em Dooley.

GO LA TECH
GO TIGERS
GO VOLS
GO ANYBODY WHO BEATS alabama.

He has a run oriented mentality... two backs and BAMM !and he belives in stopping the run first......I like that....
The running game (or lack of a running game ) is what dictates the flow of the game .The team that controls the ball dictates the tempo. With Brown and a big physical line the Vols. maybe successful sooner than later...with Dooley they will win the games that they should, which will be a improvement.....

i'm happy with the pick...he is smart ..he will be able to recruit...Hopefully he will be able to find a level headed QB that can roll out and pass (a Moving Pocket) and have big physical OL that can focus there size and ability og run blocking ,instead on setting up a human fense for a pocket passer.. a Offensive lineman that can pass block and be a great run blocker (hole opener ,pancaker) are few and far between.

Posted this on another board last night, so here's a question. If he were still one of Saban's top assistants and recruiting coordinator now instead of being the La. Tech coach the last couple years, how would you feel about him?

I think of him of being "one of Saban's top hands" , That now has had the experince of being a head coach & rebuilding a program...makes him a fine pick.

It may take a few years until we actually start seeing some big improvements, but this was a great hire. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does for the Vols.

Best thing to like about him is that you finally got someone to take the job. :clapping: and he was taught by the BEST

I agree. I thought you guys were going to be dangerous with the Kiff's. Now I see you being even better. This guy will follow the rules and keep you out of trouble as you rise to the top of the East.

I look forward to some great games between us.

The early question mark for me is that he seems like a "program" coach and not a "players" coach. "the one who's name we do not speak" seemed like a players coach, and the recruiting class responded accordingly. I hope DD's traditional attitude does not scare away the younger generation.

Hey Champy, does it make you feel better to be debbie downer?

Notice that the glass is half full and you'll see that we're going to be much better off in the long run (and possibly short run) with CDD. Give him a chance, he's got the pedigree...oh who am I kidding if you haven't realized he's a great hire by now, I'm certainly not going to convince you.

Good luck with being negative! :hmm:

It is time for the younger generation to think about pending adulthood and act accordingly. I think Nuke was part of that crowd----no thanks.
