Seems pretty clear where football ranks in the thoughts of this administration. They feel required to give it lip service because it brings in money to do the "real" things that they are there to push at the University while shaping the young minds of tomorrow. But lets face it, football is merely a testosterone poisoned legacy of androcentric barbarism that must be swept away for the greater good. First football, then men's basketball and perhaps even woman's basketball can be reoriented to shining new progressive societal norms.

With these priories firmly in mind we have authorized a $300 million revamp of the stadium to accommodate this shining future (and double as the TN Center for Environmental Naturalism). :hi:

Things more important than football:

1. Flag Twirling - I think we can all agree this is the kind of sport that UT can support.
2. Studies on the evils of ethnocentrism and the rapturous blessings of diversity in all forms.
3. Proper use of gender neutral pronouns and non-gender binary bathrooms. UT president: Gender-neutral pronoun controversy 'like nothing I've seen'
4. transexual/pansexual identity studies Pride Center | The University of Tennessee, Knoxville
5. Longitudinal research of income inequality and the need for wealth redistribution via democratic socialism. University of Tennessee professor gets $200,000 to study economic inequality
6. The importance of forcing social justice in a non-egalitarian world Center for the Study of Social Justice | College of Arts & Sciences
7. Refugee rights and transnational borders The University of Tennessee, Knoxville | Volunteer Stories

You are 100% spot on. They could care less about football. I know this is a fact as I have heard from someone close to the president himself.

By the way, Dick Vitale just had to take a final stab at us just before the end NC Michigan basketball game. Makes me sick.

Its all about the money! They have a fantastic money making business model. Make money, don't worry about wins. We can't beat Vandy but the money keeps rolling in.

OP nailed it. The Universities that seem to succeed at running a good athletic department have a powerful enough AD to keep the SJW's at bay.

Dirty little secret: A strong football program provides much more income to the University to chase these unicorns. Case in point- Alabama. That school is VERY wealthy now. Money is pouring in from all the roll tide paraphernalia from the bandwagon fans.

A parasite can't survive if it kills the host.

Neither are doing their job. Currie only tried to please Haslam. Davenport should have been provided mentor early on about hiring SEC football coach. Our football program is bigger than UTK campus.

OP had the most accurate post of the week! We're way too busy pushing a social agenda to take the time to properly hire a football coach. This administration is the most dysfunctional group of leaders I've ever seen at a major university.

Ding Ding!

The social justice warrior administrations cant easily destroy a school unless it is completely dependent upon suckling on the tits of the taxpayer. When you have a wildly successful football program that brings in a substantial portion of the university budget, those sentiments surrounding Football (ie, not SJW friendly) will tend to dominate. So if your intent is to make the people content to swill on your progressive porridge, you must first poison the golden goose.

While normally, I would expect ineptitude to rule over evil intent, my guess is closer that it is a deadly combination of them both. They would like to keep the cash but because their hearts are not "of us" they really dont understand how to competently keep the machine that feeds us running.

@Aegon Volsgaryen - that is exactly correct IMO. Nice GoT reference btw.
