USPS is taking their sweet time getting me the parts I ordered for my truck. I ordered parts on Wednesday. They shipped that day from 2 different locations. One from 650 miles away got here via FedEx on Saturday. The parts that shipped via USPS were only 300 miles away and still aren't here.

USPS is trash -- hope they get no bailout

1) FedEx generally gives better deals for overnight or 2nd day service....think Amazon.
2) UPS will hold packages until the day they are promised. If a retailer tells you that the package will be there in 5 business days, it will be delivered on the 5th business day. I have experienced this numerous time with UPS. Where is my package, it is sitting in the warehouse waiting to be delivered, can I come get it, no.
3) USPS won't give you a delivery date, ever. Even priority now says 2 days most places.

All I know is I've been ordering stuff almost every week for several months and only had one "problem" with USPS. They sent me an email saying my package was undeliverable and was being sent back to the seller. But it was delivered that day at my normal mail delivery time.

I get updates and delivery dates usually 2 times a day but at least once.

I really have no complaints. They are slow sometimes, but I'm not so sure it's not a shipper issue.

I know from my updates that most if not all of these places use some sort of service that is a middleman between the seller and the USPS. I can't find an email from thrift books to get the name, but they had one of my books sit at this sub delivery company's office 3 days before it made it to the USPS.

Email above from the USPS is from a place that uses FedEx as their "middleman" and it took them 7 days to get it from WV to Tampa. That package was delivered to the USPS in Ft. Myers by FedEx and I actually got the book a day early. Got it Friday.

OK, I get a lot of my packages that are the joint Fed Ex and USPS deliveries that I don't get tracking for. I still prefer the order I gave. I just got a book from thrift books that had a USPS tracking number on it and for 2 weeks it showed in transit. The day it was delivered was the day I knew it would be there.

So when is the scheduled arrival date? Will you know before it shows up or are you simply saying they send you updates via phone when it moves?

they send updates when it gets scanned in - the seller claims it was just put in a mail slot at the PO the same day - instead of taking it in and making them scan it on Monday

Those are called FedEx SmartPost shipments. I believe they're assigned a FedEx tracking number and also a USPS tracking number. You won't see activity on the USPS tracking number until the package is handed off to USPS.

That's the vendor, not USPS, fyi. UPS and Fed Ex are the same. The tracking numbers are generated by the shipper (vendor). Info starts coming from the carrier once they scan it at their facility and movement starts.
