Things I'm mad about today

The state of NC. I got a letter about 2 weeks ago saying they overpaid me back in November. No details at all. It had a couple of phone numbers to call for more info. I call and the voice message says the person is not available and working remotely to send an email and also that messages left will not be returned. So I email and got a very vague response that maybe someone with a background in accounting or payroll would understand, but since I am less than smart, I just do not understand. It said that she got the notice in December and then a couple of sentences that made no sense and a screenshot of what appears to be a spreadsheet.
So I email back asking her to call me. It has been 10 days. I found a number to the NCDHHS controller's office and called them a couple days ago. She seemed nice, but was not the right person. I don't think she knows who the rigjt pwrson is even though I told her who was not calling me.
It irritates me that they can 1. Make a mistake and then let it sit for 5 months before letting me know. 2. Apply an arbitrary deadline (which is fast approaching) that if they ain't got their money back they add 10%. And 3. That they just can ignore repeated attempts for clarification (which will almost guarantee I don't pay them by the deadline).
I have done some research on the topic and it apears as though I have no legal recourse other than to send them a check. But I would at least like a plain english explanation first.
I am glad I no longer work for them and I see now why I was so frustrated at that job. They just DGAF.
Nickledicks.

If you are salaried, you should know if you are overpaid or not

If you were overpaid, pay it. If not, dont.
I was released from my duties mid month. I was salaried. I also had a good bit of PTO left. I got a similar sized check at the end of the month as I had gotten the prior month. NC pays monthly. I figured it was due to a PTO payout. If I was overpaid, I am OK giving it back. I just would like a better explanation than what I got.

Yeah, ask them in writing for documentation proving you owe it.

Sounds like they think they shouldnt have to pay you for PTO

How much PTO did you think you had left?

Ditto. Documentation is the bible. He cannot say they have been unresponsive with the phone calls and such. THey can play stupid. Once he puts his requests in writing, which in today's world emails are documentation, then they are on the clock. Needs to only correspond now via that email chain, and request further clarification. Then again, if he choses to challenge the state, could cost him more, whether he owes it ack or not. Stage .gov is in the driver's seat and under no real threats.

I do have emails I sent showing I have made an effort and also I can provide call logs showing I called numerous times. All the "documentation " they sent was a screenshot of what looks like a spreadsheet.

Need to provide to you a letter detailing the particulars of how they overpaid you - “you should have received $x.xx salary plus $x.xx for earned PTO unused; you were erroneously paid $y.yy and need to return $z.zz… detailed instructions for repayment options…” Anything less is not acceptable.

Edit: There should also be instructions for how you may contest their calculations and how to communicate with questions et al. Any timeframe for your response should only start after you receive the detailed statement of overpayment.

@superdave1984
This is exactly the questions you need to provide in a certified letter to the state. Good luck. Since you've not got any useful info from them, I'd push the envelope. Worse case, you still pay, but can get out of the 10% penalty, and recover possible court costs.

Good point, but he was able to track the person and phone numbers down for that office. JUst as likely he's dealing with inept state beauracrats.

I love the texts I get for fines for violating the Peach Pass lanes in GA, and I live in Middle TN.

Work from home isn't credible and then the taxes he paid on it is last year

I was madder than a keebler elf demoted to fudge packer, but Im mostly over it.

When I run my watch gives audible updates through my earbuds on HR, Pace and power every 3 minutes. When its time the music in my ear Buds decreases so I can hear the voice then increases back to the original volume. Never been a problem. Wasn't Thursday.

Yesterday morning I update my phone to the new One UI 7. Now the music stays at the same volume and I can barely hear the voice updates.

Fire trucking updates changing errthanges. It's possible its a toggle somewhere, but Ive tried dam near every I know to try on the phone e settings, watch settings and Spotify settings.

It's just so annoying.
