Things I'd like to see vs ETSU

I wanna see a dominant first half and a second half where only our 2nd and 3rd strings play.

Allow zero points and under 200 yards. 4+ sacks. And we score mid 50s with Vertical passing game and better OL play. WRs and RBs are good

Defense:
A blitz that looks like an actual blitz, jail-breaks, sacks, hurrying the QB, etc..
Offense:
OL that shows the difference between opening holes and having gaps when they line up and snap the ball.

The rest will take care of itself.

You cannot build an elite team playing chumps. Does not matter. So what if we look good against a chump. Means nothing.
You can always work on technique and playing to a standard no matter who you’re playing. And you can get better even playing a team like ETSU, especially the second game of the year. Play to the highest standard, beat em by 70 if you can, get better and gain confidence, which it appears this team badly needs.

Getting to where we are throwing deep on occasion is a bit like pulling taffy. At first, you're not going to make much headway.

Right now, our offensive line can (unless it's 1st quarter, apparently) hold the rush off just long enough for JG to hit guys in the flats, or 5-10 yards deep.

As the OLine improves, and JG gets more time in the pocket, the OC will start dialing in longer pass plays.

But signalling a 30-yard pass right now is not much different than putting a contract out on Guarantano. Not something our OC should be doing.

Chryst. Would like to see if he’s a vertical threat or can create positive yards with his legs. Or not. We need more explosive QB production or it’s gonna be a long day vs FL

You do realize that essentially everyone else in the SEC (Alabama excluded) started off with a cupcake game, right? They are a glorified scrimmage, yes, but it gives the team an easier warm-up hitting someone else for a bit.

We got a good showing from Guarantano this weekend. I think he will improve dramatically over the next two scrimmages and will be very game ready by the time Florida rolls into town. He was actually a brighter spot on Saturday, at least in my opinion. He showed improvement. The question is; can he make that game 1 to game 2 jump in game play?

He is a real coach..he knows what he is doing....he isnt looking around for reviews and suggestions

Gosh amighty. Where do people like you come from? Do you just hang around the inside of toilets waiting to stir the crap? sheez

I want to see one of our guys tackle one of their guys...ON THE INITIAL HIT !!!
Too often over the last few years we have had blown up plays where the guy getting there first didn't wrap and tackle.
Makes a 3 yard play a 10 yard gain, a 10 yard play a 30 yard gain, and a 30 yard play a touchdown every time.

O-Line cohesion with each man completing their assignment to the best of their ability then finding someone on the next level to bury.
The Offensive Line is so important. As goes the offensive line, so goes the offense and it's only as good as a unit as the weakest link,

D-Line domination in the opponent's backfield all day before the play has a chance to develop. Those typical championship Pruitt-led defenses with linemen shedding blocks like it's nothing to get to the quarterback before he can set his feet. So much pressure that the defense is in his head the whole game from the tone that's set early.

Tough tackling linebackers of the variety that running backs find themselves going down early tackled for a loss. Let's get that modern day Al Wilson protege to emerge!

Proper tackling technique aka Shoulder tackling ("Hawk" tackling) by every member of the defense:

2015 Seahawks Tackling

3 years later, Pete Carroll’s "rugby style tackling" video still changing football

Corners and DBs stepping up the technique and speed with suffocating coverage. Coverage sacks, pass breakups, and interceptions.

No busted coverages and no big plays given up against the defense. Build on the plays that were good coverage Saturday and everyone can forget about the ones we got burnt.

More of the same from receivers, running backs, punter, kicker, special teams, and quarterbacks in general.

Quarterbacks - I'd like to see staring straight ahead on every play so that they can look at the coverage with their peripheral vision. That way they don't give away the play early and it functions like a look-off naturally just "reading the square" and decide which progression of receivers by the end of the drop to make the right reads on time. The defense can't get a read on where you're headed if you keep your head straight.

Build on the success of Saturday's turnover ratio. That was definitely a plus.

Improve mentally by avoiding penalties.

The penalties is the mental game. Games can be won or lost by penalties.

If each player had to run the length of the field the same number of times as yards he is penalized each game,
it wouldn't take long to improve this area.

Most of all, I'd like to see continued teamwork and the team having fun doing their best as a team and ignore any negativity from anyone that was just negative for the sake of negativity over the past week. Those people were most likely caught up in their disappointed emotions and just vented because of last week's result. That's behind us all now and there were plenty of experiences and positives to build from to grow as an entire team headed into ETSU. Go Vols!

LOL....Now you know why you are more upset than any one with practical expectations.....this isn't a play your favorite song (radio show) ... this is football. As a fan everyone wants to see good things, but ultimately coaches get to make the game plan.

Get back to reality and drink some Koolaid, until you become a coach!

Total reality. I made my personal wishes of things I'd like to see this weekend. Not what I suggested to CJP or any coach at UT. Others did the same. You must be carrying a grudge because you don't even make sense. Others made their own wishes of things they would like to see. Every now and again I run into psychos on social media and you are a prime example.

Lol @ the responses in this thread. When are some of you going to realize how bad we actually are? We cannot hang 70 on anyone. I highly doubt we can hold any D1 team under double digit points. I will be shocked if we can hold ETSU under 300 yards. We are NOT the TN of old. We are NOT the Fulmer era Vols. Nowhere near that level. We are probably closer to a mid to lower tier MAC team.

What do I want to see against ETSU? Just show some improvement overall. I think that will build some confidence in the players.

as mentioned earlier, this game and the next are about getting reps. 1st and 2nd teamers should get lots of reps on both sides of the ball.

reps build confidence through experience. more reps lead to better overall execution. we need all the reps we can get between now and florida.

not 'leadership reps'

Entitled to your opinion so I’m going to laugh at your response as well.
