i fully believe they will get the program back on top. they are closing the talent gap which is a huge first step. i think the win over western kentucky got the fans hopes up a little to much. we are still not very deep. Our team will go as our QB play goes IMO...

Boys you got to have patience- It makes me sick to hear my fellow Vol fans bash our new coaching staff- ( not that you all are)

The intensity and desire is back on Rocky Top and I feel very confident that our day back in the sun is coming- Support the Vols and protect Lane like he is your girlfriend and he will take us places. IM SURE!!!

GO VOLS>>>>>>>>>>

Our coaching staff is unbelievable and will have us back in the top five within two years. We just need Crompton to be abducted, so we can start another QB.

I agree. It takes time to get back to the top. I can't believe some are calling for Kiffin to be fired after TWO games. Really people? No one knows if Fulmer would have beaten UCLA or not, but that doesn't even matter now. We should all support the coaches that we HAVE not that we HAD. Besides, they can recruit like crazy. Give the coaching staff some time to gel and work things out. They are all new here too. I have faith in the new staff. This week will test them in every dimension. Go vols!

I started to start a thread on what Kirk Herbstreit said on the zone this morning, but didn't feel it really merited it's own thread so I will post it here since it is relevant.

Kirk basically said, "You better get your shots in now because with what Kiffin is doing in recruiting and coaching the VOLS will be a major power house in the next few years and for many years to come! Opponents beware!"

He also said FLA will beat us by 4-5 tds this weekend

Fulmer had a lot of top 10 recruiting classes.

My point exactly. You guys say "we'll finally have talent" like you are banking on that as the answer, but it's not. Our coaches just got handled even though they had far superior talent.

That class gave us:

Hardesty
Cottam
Brown
McCoy
Richard
Scott
G Williams
D Williams
McNeill
Morley
Coker
Crompton

It's a legit class. 4 of the stars haven't worked out for this year, but that's the case with most good recruiting classes.

2005: Tennessee #4, UCLA #26
2006: Tennessee #23, UCLA #17
2007: Tennessee #3, UCLA #40

We just got beat on our homefield by somebody we definitely outrecruited.

Fulmer brought a lot of talent. Coaching was to blame for Phil's teams decline.

That's my point. Talent doesn't win if you can't coach it. We just got outcoached by NEUHEISAL. I'm not saying Kiffin won't be good, but I didn't see much of a difference last Saturday between him and Fulmer. I don't think Fulmer ever lost to a PAC 10 team at home.

We have no depth. That was failmers problem. We have a good recruiting class and the next one sucks. His lack of bringing in lineman on both sides of the ball has killed our depth.

We lost to UCLA at UCLA when Peyton was a freshman. Is that what you are talking about? And no way were UCLA teams of the 90's as bad as they are now.

We had good recruiting classes in the past. The problem has been in the past we have taken 4* and 5* guys and over the course of their career have not developed them or in some cases made them go backwards.

You guys can point the finger and say Kiff is no better than Fulmer and Co. all you want. The painful truth is this: The group of young men we have over there now has been taught so badly over the years, we aren't going to ever completely reverese the effects until all those guys are gone and the new dogs are in the house. With the excpeption of a very few like EB.

I saw more than a few times in the UCLA old habbits coming back. Poor shoulder tackling, and on more than one occasion lazy route running, poor technique up front on the O-line, and of course, our QB play. I seen some of the freshmen make some bad decisions and utilize some bad technique, but those guys can be taught, unfortunately the seniors on this team are mostly a lost cause. Do something wrong long enough, in key situations, you will always revert back to what you know.
As

As far as our QB situation. Kiff knows if he sits Crompton, he can never go back to him. He has painted himself into a corner with his previous statements about rotating QB's and sticking with one.

That's my take..

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. I'm sure I can find a team that Fulmer lost to at home from the Pac-10.

It is recruiting and coaching them up. I definitely saw improvement in some of the fundamentals during the WKU game... I think some of them fell back to old habits some during the UCLA game, but the coaching is definitely better. I still think the biggest problem was the lack of bulls on the o-line. No pass protection and very little push on running plays, making a bad QB even worse. That is getting fixed with recruiting. And how can a great high school player not become an awesome college ball player after two years of Monte Kiffin lessons?

I still believe, and it's way too soon to be talking gloom and doom, unless you're referring to the immediate future... :eek:hmy:
