Things are not as bad as it seems

The remainder of this season should be spent building NEXT YEAR'S starting teams on both offense and defense. I'm not saying that I've totally given up on winning this year but if we do...it should be with NEXT YEAR'S TEAM. Put the young players on the field and let'em learn to play big time SEC football during what has to be the most F-'ed up season anyone has ever seen. There's only one team left on the schedule over whom a "-W-" would be a great accomplishment for Pruitt and staff. That's the LAST game of the season. If part of the "issues" with our team this year is how many "reps" they got, or didn't get in preparing for THIS season...let's just use these upcoming games to prepare for the future, and the Gators..!!

They are 2-4. The only thing that game showed was how bad our defense sucks. We made both offenses look much better than they actually are especially Bennett.
I think our offense made both teams offense look better then they were. 2 pick 6's, 1 fr TD, & a few turnovers deep in your own territory will inflate a score board in a heartbeat.

kept the game close with Georgia.

Georgia's offense is almost as inept as ours, and yet we couldn't even keep it a close game. Kentucky's offense is even worse than ours, and they boat raced us. We got serious problems on offense (and yes I mean QB) that the coaching had better figure out quick. We are staring down a 3-7 season with losing margins of 30 points/game the rest of the season. I'm also being generous and am assuming we can beat Vandy.

Tennessee could easily lose to an Arkansas team that scores points and Tennessee can't. Arkansas is maybe the 2nd easiest opponent UT has left. UT isn't beating Auburn on the roads or beating TaMu or UF. The only possible victories are Candy and the pigf&#@ers. 1-4 is a very likely possibility.

It is looking like 4-6 is the high mark now. That is sad considering we were ranked 12-13 before the Ky game. Chaney is not adjusting to the game and JG may or may not be the reason for that. I love UT and follow football better than most of my friends. I don't like the roller coaster ride any more than anyone else. I wonder if Pruitt's defensive brain clouds his decision about how to approach our offensive identity.

I would think he would want to have an offense that he deemed the most difficult for his defense to contend with in games. Does anybody know what his defensive record was against Cheney's offenses? There are too many teams with less talent that use coaching philosophy to maximize their talent and score against the top tier teams (MS, MSU, Louisville, and others). Most have a QB who is athletic and we don't have that right now. Bailey may be the answer but we aren't gonna beat A&M or Fla with JG. Unless he should have a game like last years late streak, we can't hang with Auburn or Arkansas.

I am a Vol for Life and I hope JP can right the ship in time. He's a good man and a football guy so I will continue to pull for him. GO VOLS!!!

This bye week has given us all time for reflection. Taking a step back and looking at things again puts things in perspective...Kentucky showed they are a really good ball club...kept the game close with Georgia. This shows that our loss to Kentucky was not all that bad. Kentucky is a top 20 team. Lets keep up the hard work and keep improving!!

Our coach isn’t intelligent enough to recognize that qb is a pretty important position in football and that if your starter sucks you should give someone else a try. Instead he hears all the criticism and doubles down while lecturing the fans, journalists, and even his own players (that have campaigned for a new qb) that none of us know what he knows. It’s not really about performance on the field it’s about maturity and practice habits. So instead of us taking a big step forward in year 3 we’re 2-3 with 3 blow out losses. So ya it’s pretty bad. Worse yet is that this idiot is still defending his ridiculous decision. We managed our 7th year qb like an 17 year old making his first career start at bama. After the game he said he though JG has a nice game and that “he really done some nice things out there”. My god. Yes it’s bad

The last 3 words. We aren’t improving and a loss to KY is pathetic in any universe.

What exactly are you seeing that makes you think this? I mean what about this team or staff makes you think things are ok and getting better?

[QUOTE="coach799, post: 18864323, member: 21695" I wonder if Pruitt's defensive brain clouds his decision about how to approach our offensive identity.

[/QUOTE]

Pruitt should step away from the offense and let the offensive coaches run that show.

I like the fact that your post isn't one of the 99.5% that are by negavols.

Kentucky is 2-4 and could be 4-2. Stoops does well to develop talent but is terrible as a game day coach. Eddie Gran has been figured out.

Their schedule has thus far been easier than ours. Georgia, Ole Miss vs Georgia and bama.

They do have a good defense but their offense is held back by a lack of effective passing.

Without those two pick 6's and a little more motivation, we could have spanked them by 10-14.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda!

Those three teams are “utilizing” their talent so well that they are 2-4, 2-5 and 1-4. And Miss St can’t even score as many points as Tennessee has with JG outside of a terrible LSU team

We lost 34-7 to Kentucky. Sorry, but that was a terrible loss

I’m not so sure about that
Right. Without the turnovers, the team continues to be motivated and to play hard. Just like in the Georgia game, you could see the air going out of the team as easily as if you were watching a punctured tire go flat. One turnover is bad but recoverable. Subsequent ones, especially when everyone knew they were coming, must be demoralizing beyond belief

Kentucky is not very good. They are maybe a top 50 team, they don't sniff top 20. Things are as bad as they seem in year three. He has a chance to correct the course.

The only difference between this year and last year is Tennessee doesnt have Georgia State on this schedule to lose to. So they picked Kentucky to lose to instead. Same bad, underdeveloped team we saw last year.

Too bad we don't get credit for "coulda shoulda woulda".
That's true and it is possible for the better team to lose the game in the 1st quarter. It's pretty obvious that they do have a good defense, and we did just what you can't do against a team that has that. Spotting them 17 points was game over. You wouldn't think that given they are Kentucky, but they likely would have won every game they've played if the other teams spotted them 17.
