Lane Kiffin was asked about whether or not how poorly the second team defense played against Memphis helped recruiting and he said that it did. Recruits can see that we need help.

Ed Orgeron brought to Ole Miss both Powe and D. McCluster who looked like a Heisman trophy candidate.

In 2002, TN had 2 starting MLB injured and Miami ran over us again and again on our home field. Against Ole Miss we started our 3rd string MLB and it showed. Assignments were wrong and our defense was out of position regularly particularly in LBs playing run defense.

Our offensive line against Alabama (with a few notable exceptions) and against UCLA and against Ole Miss looked physically outclassed because they are.

This staff has gotten everything they can out of these guys and we now have the best recruiting staff in the country.

Talent level in the SEC today:
Florida or Alabama 1 and 2.
3. LSU
4. Ole Miss
5. UGA

We are somewhere below there.

With a top flight recruiting class of 27 this year, and another the following, they will be getting close to equal footing talent wise. When we play teams where we have equal talent I believe that this staff will win.

This team has not played well on the road. Next year this team has many more of their hardest games at home. With a bowl win taking the team to 8 victories, expectations will not be too high for a team starting lots of freshmen out of necessity and with no proven QB, losing their most productive RB etc but I truly believe that next year there will be a more talented TN team on the field physically. By the following year, the defense should be absolutely stifling and we should begin to expect championships.

This team hasn't played well on the road?

We nearly beat the #1 ranked Bama ON THE ROAD, and Played Florida extremely close ON THE ROAD.

We did look terrible against Ole Miss, but that is the only game on the road in which we looked terrible.

Nonetheless, we have a 0-3 road record.

Let's hear it for moral victories.

0-3 on the road

Lost to Florida ranked #1 23-13

Lost to Alabama ranked #1 12-10

Lost to Ole Miss ranked as high as #4 earlier this year 42-17.

I hate to lose as much as the next guy, but taking a 5-7 last year to two #1 ranked teams home fields and losing my a total of 12 isn't embarrasing.

The loss to Ole Miss was embarrasing, be patient. It's a rebuilding process, we'll get it going soon. When it does its gonna be FREAKIN' SWEET!!!

your are absolutely right but these fair-weather moronic fans will have high expectations and if the dont play lights out they will be calling for heads and show how arm chair they are.this staff is the best and they will get every thing out of the players that is possible

0-3 record with home losses to Auburn and UCLA.

Thanks for the update. Everyone had forgotten.

Most people with a thimble full of common sense knew that this was going to be a tough year. Close losses and impressive wins that were fueled by emotion led us to believe that Tennessee was back. But, unfortunately, UT football is a couple of years away from being a contender.

I realized Saturday that we are winless against the west. I don' think that has ever happened, not even in 05 or 08.

Heyyyyy. I got on this thread cause it said the future looks bright. So, I am envisioning finishing with 3 W's in a row, and a top-5 recruiting class.

Meanwhile, Palardy! Boy, hit those weights, but don't get too tight, do some yoga, too.

UT has just run out of players. This staff did a great job of patching over patches but they've reached a point of having to depend on guys that really shouldn't be playing yet. Guys are playing that wouldn't be if the team had any depth of experience.

McCluster is a good player but he's no better than 4 or 5 guys that UF has. The difference is that UF played against UT's healthy D. OM faced an almost completely depleted LB corps, a secondary missing key players, and a DL with injuries to just about every key player.

Some of the problems that were exposed Saturday have been there all along... I mean it shouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to figure out that a 300 lb DT should be able to bull rush the Sullins bros... but much of what we saw was just what we feared from the start of the year. UT just doesn't have depth yet. Depth is how you fill in for injured players but it is also how you keep them fresh in games to avoid injuries.

UT will get better when they get quality depth across the board.
