This man needs to be making at least 600K/yr with bonus possibilities of another 400k to make it a cool million!

And he needs at least a $2 million buyout.

He needs to get more cash....but needs to have title as Recruiting Coordinator. Azzani is a great recruiter and CBJ buddy, but Thig is the man and should have ALL control over things relating to recruiting.

Here is the deal imo

We to appreciate and understand what we have in Thig.

The AD needs to make an investment in the the man the coach the genius, and let him know that the University of Tennessee is investing in him as a professional. We want Coach Thigpen no matter who the head coach may be or the AD.

We need to invest in this man!!!!!!!!!!

Why ? You not happy with the way recruiting is going now ? It seems to me we have a set up and system that is working as well as it can, why mess with that. Give the man a little more cash that he's earned and let it ride.

Butch + Butches boys recruiting = average ... and it is proven with historical facts

Butch + Thigpen = beyond all our expectations and national recognition

Butch and his boys could have got national recognition at Cincy but they did not.

What was missing?

What rank and file and system was in place for this years nationally recognized class ?

CBJ Friends aside (Coach Z), I don't think we would have been a Top20 recruiting team if it wasn't for Thig. Sure we hit a home run with the legacies, but Thig got the bulk of the big non-legacy recruits. I just can't see Coach Z sitting on a recruit's couch in many areas and recruit the way Thig can.

Big difference getting kids to Cincy and to Tennessee. That's probably a major difference.

Sometimes the Indians make the Chief.

Sometimes the Master Sargent makes more than the Lieutenant for a reason!

Sometimes you can be paid more than your superiors and everyone has an understanding and it is OK.

I love where we are in recruiting...just believe the best recruiter we have, that has recruited the bulk of our talent and(you know, the one that got Cam Newton to Au), should have the title of Recruiting Coordinator. Call it a perk to his resume or whatever pal.
Why mess with that, you say? Well, Thig might get more respect and better position at another university. Would you be willing to let that ride?

Wow?/!
:hmm:

Don't use common sense. The only appropriate way to act on VolNation is to believe you know more than the professionals and use faulty logic on everything.

Common sense tells us all that have any that keeping coach Thigpen is absolutely critical.

To put it in Jones speak we would lose a wall if we lost Thigpen.

The whole staff did a great job recruiting this year and the recruits helped as well.

Lets give credit to all.

I'm sure CT gets a raise after this class.

Losing Thigpen would hurt. No one argues that. Saying that he must be made recruiting coordinator & that this staff would fail to recruit well without him is short-sighted and false. Kids rave about Coach Jones first & foremost, then his assistants.

This staff is recruiting at a higher level now because they went from Cincinnati to an SEC school with a storied history, a large budget, and top-notch facilities.

I don't think I meant any of that.

Thigpen is what he is and I think he has chosen to be that...

He is the best at what he does and we need to keep him.

Tommy Thigpen on your staff ===== champtionships!!!!!!!!!!!!

You do realize that recruiting coordinator is more than just a title don't you ? It's an actual job and a pretty self explanatory one at that. The coordinator doesn't have to be the best closer on the staff.

So you want to mess with the system in place and put the coordinators job and responsibilities on top of Thigpen instead of having him constantly in living rooms doing what he does best ? Has it even occurred to you that Thig may like the set up as it is ? Not saying that's a certainty but it's often the case with closers on staffs.

Like I said, pay him his worth and let the system in place ride. If it ain't broke don't fix it. JMO

How many of you guys have won the lottery :):)

Sounds like a lot of "facts" are being thrown out here regarding where we would be without Thig. For those of you who have won millions in the lottery, just write the man a check and tell him he must stay :):):)

Thig may not want to be the recruiting co-ordinator. He may be more of a people person and coach Z may be more of a details (face in a laptop constantly) type.
