Can Thigpen find someone not named Jumper to play MLB on 9/24.
McDowell, Sapp, or JRM changing spots?
Something must happen.
I hate calling out a player.
But, I don't care how much money his Dad has supposedly given us. I don't care how good he looks in practice.
We've seen what he does in games now over two seasons.
There HAS to be a different answer.
And, Thigpen must convince Shoop & Jones he can find it.

Same thing for Mahoney.
From what Butch said today, it doesn't sound like Hall will be back for 9/24.
So, in 12 days Mahiney has to find the "best 5".
Many Vol fans think that JJ should be one of those and that Thomas can not start at center.
Who knows what Debord and Jones think.
But, Mahoneys big challenge is to get us a "serviceable" Oline to give Dobbs a chance against the Gators.

This, as we all know, will be the most important game for us in over a decade.
Please, please, please under the luminescent orange sky in the valley of our beautiful Smokies, find us some answers. :yahoo:

Have a little more confidence in Thig to figure it out with McDowell and Sapp than I do Mahoney and DeBord to figure it out with Thomas and Robertson. Guess we'll see.

I did use the word supposedly.
But, if you read any Vol web site or listen to any Vol related sports talk radio, this is almost always brought up.
I have no idea who his Dad is or if he donates.
But, I can say with every bit of thousands of misspent hours of watching college football, that I don't think this player gives us our best chance to win.
And, by the way, Ciach Doug Matthews (who most Vols greatly respect) agrees with me on this topic as he stated yesterday on his radio show.

Based on how they looked when guys were moved around vs VT.... Richmond is the weak link at this point. Thomas looked better at RT than C. Kendrick looked better at LT than RT. The OL seemed to play better with Wiesman at C.... and Robertson played better when Richmond wasn't in.

McDowell needed more PT even before the injury. Hopefully they can move JRM to MLB and play CM.

This is exactly my point--but I guess if you see it on the internet or hear about it on the radio, it must be true.
Do you really think a guy making the money CBJ makes can be bribed to play a kid?

Surely Thig does not want to play Jumper after the VT game. Colton just struggles to make tackles. I just cannot believe Jumper is the most capable back up we have.

No miracles needed.

Play JRM and McDowell as your starter. Save reps with Bynum and others this week.

Put Richmond back in development. It seems painfully obvious he isn't ready. Make one adjustment at a time starting with that one. Jack Jones brings a nastiness to UT's OL that they need. IMO, he should play OG, Wiesman C, Thomas RT, and Kendrick at LT.

I can see why he would be impressive in practice. He is smart and seems to get where he's supposed to be. He just cannot finish once he gets there.

You are right about Jones. He must be in the line up.

Considering the AD was on the verge of bankruptcy in 2012

Report: Tennessee athletics over $200 million in debt

I doubt Butch Jones is the one he would be bribing and I'm also willing to bet that they would be inclined to take donations however they could get it no matter the cost.

With all that said I'm not so sure I'm buying that rumor.

Watched replay. Online played better than I thought. Need to work desperately on stunts. Seems that's when they got most of their pressure running stunts.

Ok...going that route, who ABOVE Butch could ORDER HIM to start & play an inferior player and still expect success from that coach? Hart? Things like that blow up on you and don't stay under wraps. Instant conspiracy. :loco:

i agree, but my question is...how have we not figured some of that out by now??? what has this group looked like in practice??

and how can 4 of those 5 looks so bad after such an improvement last year?

this is so frustrating.

I can't believe how fast this went from "random message board tidbit" to fact. Come on, guys. Smarten up.

I'm not sure what topic you are referring to--Doug certainly didn't say that Jumper plays due to any donations made by family members.

why not go with a 5-2-4 defense. I watched jumper last Saturday night and he could not tackle 1 on 1.

Weisman was all-sec at LG last year. Thomas looked like a future nfl C last year. I don't think this needs to be over thought. Put Dylan back at LG which will help Drew because Jashon getting blown up isn't helping at all. Thomas should be healthy by UF, he looked better on Saturday already. J.Jones at RG which seems obvious to everyone. Kendrick at RT until hall comes back.

Jumper looks good in practice because he's playing against our offense and knows where the ball is going. Then when it's game time against a real offense, he suddenly looks lost. Admire the kids hustle and guts, but I'd rather have talent like Bates out there if he's healthy
