I like the scale of impact large corporations can achieve.
If management was treated 25 years ago like they are today, I probs woulda made a career in hospitality.

In a world when college degrees mean vastly less than they used to, and a restaurant scene that is really blowing up in terms of quality and service, hospitality is a great field.

100% true. Any manager who works more then 55 hours a week has to call me and explain why. They are salaried. It's a work life balance issue. And when they call, I call their GM and rip the GM a new a-hole

Really is. One of McDaughter's college besties is managing a Pappasitos in Dallas. Math major who graduated last year and wants to go to law school. Started with amazing salary and benefits for a 22 year old nerd.

I was tempted by a job offer for Top Golf a few months back.

Their GM's don't crack 50 hours, get six figs, and monstrous 401k benefits. It's a prime example of newer companies setting the standards for running a well-oiled machine and taking care of the folks who make it happen.

Daughter's friend did a little bit better. He worked as server at chain during summers. Maybe that helped him some.

Doesn't surprise me. We don't pay well until the GM level. That's when stock options start kicking in. We leverage the work life balance piece with managers.

If I could go back in time I'd spend my college age summers working down on the redneck riviera waiting tables in some tourist trap .....drinking.... screwing ....and fishing .....
