It's psychological, it shouldn't logically of course, but I've watched football long enough that it's clear some teams have a psychological edge against others. It's not irreversible or anything but it does exist. We both have new coaching staffs. What tangible effect does history have on the outcome? None.
Personally I think the 5 games that matter most are
Florida
South Carolina
Kentucky
Missouri
Vanderbilt
I say this because if Tennessee can pick up 3 out of these 5 they most likely go to a bowl............and that should be the high side goal for the season.
Of the ones you mentioned I think Florida would be the best chance for Tennessee to pick up a win (at this point, not knowing how better or worse Tennessee will be or other teams will be).
NoOut of these five does anyone believe we will beat any of them?Florida,Georiga,Auburn,Bama an South Carolina,I think we have a better chance beating Florida because its at Neyland and we will be 2-1 going in.In all honestly I believe Florida and South Carolina most realistic chance! If by chance we beat one of them I believe we will be Bowl bound.
Why does everyone put so much stock into our loss when we played the best QB in the country and yet put so much stock into all the sec teams who’d played completeUF and SC are the most likely, meaning they are remotely possible. SC is tough because of where it falls on the schedule. On paper UF is more likely. But that has never stopped us from blowing it in the past. I think we have to win one of them to make a bowl unfortunately. The Missouri game will probably look a lot like WV. It's going to be a long year.
Why does everyone put so much stock into our loss when we played the best QB in the country and yet put so much stock into all the sec teams who’d played completeteams there first week? Because I guarantee you some of y’all would be saying don’t put to much stock into it had we played against some FCS opponent....the narrative is always switched when it’s somebody else.
As crazy as it sounds I was pleased with offense on Saturday. The offensive line miscues I feel we’re mostly blown assignments. We averaged almost 6 yards a carry. Who knows man. I just want TN to get back to respectability that’s all I askMaybe because our offense only put up 14 points against one of the not-so-great defenses in the country?

I was mad too but damn some of the people on here already came to a conclusion that Pruitt won’t be the guy.You asked why people were down after losing to Grier and WVU. We flat out didn't look competitive with a Big 12 team, on either side of the ball, and we know we will face QBs as good, or nearly as good as Grier in our own conference, and much better defenses.

Fair enough. I just refuse to believe that we’re incapable of improvement throughout the season and some of these guys actually abide by that thought. It’s sickeningWho mentioned Pruitt being "the guy" or not? It's irrelevant in the fact that we showed a an utter lack of competitiveness, on offense or defense Saturday.
We won't know for 1-2 more full seasons after this one whether or not Pruitt is "the guy", but we do know that if what we saw in Saturday, is what we should expect from the team this season, then we won't be taking much if any of a step forward from the outcome of the 2017.
