These are from ESPN's Team Efficiencies so far. Team Efficiencies - 2018 - ESPN

This might give us a better understanding where we are at (what are our strengths and weakness) and where we are heading (who we should beat moving on)

According their system, 50 is the average.

TENNESSEE
Offense 37.1
Defense 62.4
Special 36.1
Overall 42.6

We are offensively ranked 104/130
We are defensively ranked 44/130
Special teams ranked 108/130
Overall we are at 85/130

IMMATERIAL for a rebuilding program.
ESPN's "Stats" are built from past performance...HISTORY.
Pruitt, and everyone else with 2 brain cells understands that this program is in a growth/rebuilding phase and as such past performance is not, and cannot be any kind of metric for predicting ( guessing..!!) future game results. Coach Pruitt is being paid a bucket of cash every week to GROW the program and demonstrate that improvement on the field, week-on-week not simply repeat the same results that previous week "game stats" have shown.
That kind of charting might be useful if you want to compare more mature programs. Alabama vs Georgia for example, but (sadly) that ain't us.

This didn't start this year...if you compare previous years 2006 for example and then jump to 2017, you will see this has been in the works for sometime. You very seldom go from the Penthouse of Athletics to the Outhouse in one year!

Since our Universe is the SEC, here are our current stats and standing in Conference:

Total Offense 14th (Dead Last) 350 ypg

Total Defense: 9th 340.6 ypg. / Allowing 5.73 ypp

With an Offense ranking of 104, a defense rating of 44 is surprisingly good. I think the defense has played well considering the amount of time they have had to play each game.

After Pruitt gets canned, we'll all be looking for an "offensive minded" coach and telling ourselves "if we can just pay for a quality DC and Coach X let's him do his job."

See the pattern here? Rinse and repeat.

I don't give a DAM- what kind of offensive minded staff you can come up with, WITHOUT an offense line nothing will work very well! All plays running and passing take just a little blocking and play development time.

Do you believe the coaching staff gets the most it can from the o?

Yes. I hate being negative, but our line just smothers ever thing that could be done that would be productive.
Id have to disagree, and its not being negative it's being realistic. Our game plans appear to be run up the middle on 1-2, deep pass on 3rd. Not the way to compensate for a weak o line. When we have done things to get the ball away from the line quickly, its been fairly effective and he just stop.
It's almost like our coaching staff has conceded that the offense will be no good so why even try.

I'd like to agree with you, but I just don't think anything would work. I feel the running up the middle or where ever is done to use more clock to protect the defense.
I am afraid I must agree with your last statement. I see nothing the staff can do but keep working on the o-line. When this improves, then they can start to coach offense, not just teach a craft the guys up front should already fundamentally know.

We have playmakers. Get the ball in their hands away from the line, it works. Running up the middle 3 and outs doesnt help the d, unless you are counting letting the play clock run out each time. It's odd what they are doing on that side and is probably what is leading to alot of animosity toward the staff.

I think it does lead to a degree of animosity. Seems like offensive staff doesn't even want to try at times. Have yet to be creative in anyway. The roll right, pass back left to Pope was a good call and there's a lot of screens they could run in that manner. Another thing about screens and swing routes out of backfield is it slows the defensive rush down if you burn 'em a few times. We just seem too predictable with our rushing game and that's why the stats. We simply don't throw enough.

Write this down today, Pruitt will be here a minimum of 10 years. Multiple National Championships to follow.

It is when most of the team is made up of the same players from the previous team which was the worst team in UT history. Currently they are on track to claim that title this year as well.

You are correct. Not much will work. Some like to believe that you can scheme your way out of the talent disparity. Cant do that in the SEC. Or in football in general. If that were the case, you would see many different teams in the playoffs every year. Thats not the case. There is a reason you see mostly the same teams.

The fact is we really dont have many playmakers. Think about it. Look at our WRs. Would any of them see the field at UGA, UF, SC, Mizzou or probably UK? Doubtful. Would Chandler be a starter anywhere in the SEC? Doubtful. JG? Our OL, besides maybe Smith? No way. Our TEs? I mean lol.

This football team is full of slow, underdeveloped players who dont know how to execute. Especially on the OL. Until the OL gets fixed, our offense will continue to struggle.

This. Maybe they can scheme to help a little, but we just don't have the horses. I love Jennings, but he is slow. We don't have the dynamic wr we need. OL sucks. TEs are not good. Chandler is our only weapon who just needs some room.

D is ok, but on the field too long.

P is great, the rest of special teams is average or below.

We just aren't very good. I still am holding out hope Pruitt will get it going. He is a recruiting machine, and I believe a good coach, but only time will tell.

Slightly misleading with UT having played WVU and UGA... plus the 6 turnover meltdown. The numbers should improve a little.
