Check out the new expansion of The Big House just about finished: A $226 million project will take Michigan Stadium to 109,901.

not even part of the plan to be # 1. with the renovations, UT started moving toward less, not more...We will end up not even # 1 in the SEC... jmo

They decided to add luxury boxes to the stadium instead of more seats. Good luck filling those in the recession...

it pisses me off that bama is about to surpass us, but i'd rather have a nice, beautiful, BIG stadium than just the biggest one. the renovations they're doing are making it look like an SEC stadium. it was rather bland before, so i'll take it.

Don't really care. I have heard the stadium louder on Saturdays when we had 90K and you could see Ayers sticking up over the hill. I blame it on the mind and attention sucking Jumbotron.

Considering the *ahem* "girth" of some of our fans, I'd say we need a little extra room anyway.

How about building the third deck outside the current structure making it the small inner bowl... a Notre Dame like solution?

Seriously, the problem with the stadium is not what it used to be (lack of seats). The problem is that the team that keeps occupying the field isn't what it used to be. Until we fix that, there are plenty of seats as is.

I can remember reading the synopsis of an engineer's report of the last expansion. It is still possible to take the stadium to 115,000 to 118,00. Utilizing either side of the press boxes and\or luxury suits. Something about another level. Any details beyond this or a link request. I just don't have.

It is ironic that our AD brags so much about all of 'his' success with facilities, yet took away the main bragging rights we fans had.

Didn't we for just a brief period of time have the largest stadium? UM couldn't live with it, and passed us soon after, but I thought we did achieve that status, but my memory could be wrong.

I will gladly give up having the biggest stadium for a winning team that goes to a BCS bowl game every year with a few NC's thrown in here and there.:cray:

Unfortunately, the two are related, in a sense. The team with the outcomes you want produces the demand for ticket sales needed to fill the larger stadium.

Likewise, building a smaller stadium is consistent with cutting costs on the coaching staff and the AD's continued downgrading of the football program.

The problem is that while he's spending money to improve his personal view of the game, he can't sell tickets without investing in the team itself.
