There is no way Muschamp is dumb enough to play man to man

NC State played soft on the edges with varying degrees of safety help, and still got beat deep.

On the throws they got beat deep with, they had zero safety help. NCSU has DBs that like to gamble. Factor that in with no safety help, and you have a disaster waiting to happen.

This entire thread is why running the ball is ESSENTIAL this week. You have to open the middle of the field by drawing in the LB and at least occasionally one safety to defend run.

If the run game is so poor that UF doesn't have to respect it and can provide coverage to the middle of the field, it could be a very, very long day for Tennessee.

True. You're probably going to get beat deep at least a couple times no matter what coverage you run. It's just inevitable and Muschamp has to deal with it and try to minimize the impact. :)

UT will have to prove they can run the ball before Muschamp brings the safties closer to the LOS.

In hindsight, NC State showed the nation how NOT to defend UT's passing game. They had no respect for your receivers.

Agree. NC ST totally overvalued their defensive personnel. I don't see UF doing that, unfortunately.

True, if we repeatedly miss the jam on Saturday we get housed.

Think that's why Dooley is so high on big receivers. The contact rule goes both ways within 5 yards of the LOS so Vol receivers will be pushing off to get seperation. I've posted on other threads that I expect there to be alot of roster fighting. The officals will impact this game one way or the other..either by making alot of calls or lettin' 'em play. Just hope CP and JH keep their cool and stop shoving at the whistle. Don't need any 15 yard penalties or ejections. 'Course that goes for Gator DB's as well.

i remember justin hunter saying something recently about how he loves when people try to jam him cause they think that since he he is fast and tall that he can't be that strong.

its not always about strength. its just about that lil nudge to throw u off for that half a second. thats the whole goal as a db. like i say though, there is that time when the db will wiff.

Even with all the focus on Tennessee's passing game the real difference will be if the Vols can run the ball with some success. The play action fake has to be credible.

Bray's solution is to substitute pump fakes for the play fake. Worked against NC State. :p

they need to run a nickel, dime or any passing package to stop tennessee. that will make tennessee prove they can run. judging by our running, (as a usual florida, tennessee game,) it will be very important for us to run over a 100 yards to win this game. Its all coming down to the oline.

There will be alot more than nudging going on. If the Gator DB's are truly on the LOS right in Hunter's or CP's grill I expect the Vol WR's to blast 'em with the intent of knocking them to the ground or off balance and creating immediate seperation.

no i completely agree. i was juss saying that not all the time its about getting in the grill, its a quick hit and start movin. different techniques. hunter and patt will definitely have to be moving their hands, if they are moving their hands, we will be ok.

I keep seeing where most are expecting Hunter and Patterson to be 1 on 1 the entire game. Muschamp is a moron, but no one is that dumb. For the most part, we will be seeing a soft man with two safeties over the top or a zone. That is exactly what he came out with last year vs. us in the opening drive. If somehow I am underestimating his idiocy, Florida better be putting signs in his front yard Saturday night.

Jay??? That you??

Bray's solution is to substitute pump fakes for the play fake. Worked against NC State. :p

Pump fakes were used to get NCSU CB's to bite on first move. Then Vol's WR's turned it up the field. Works if its true man coverage. The play action fake is to freeze the safties and LB's long enough for the receivers to get by them. You have to be running the ball well enough for the play fake to get the defenders to either take their first step towards the LOS or at least freeze a moment before dropping into coverage. If they feel they can ignore the play fake and drop immediately into coverage the passing games gets much harder to execute. You may have heard TV announcers saying so and so safety got caught looking in the back field and someone ran by him..well that's what we need.

Good post, and you're absolutely right.

The ESPN analysts showed how NC State's DBs gave too big a cushion to UT's receivers, allowing CP and Hunter to get a full head of steam on their routes.

UF will press and try to disrupt Bray's timing, leaving UF vulnerable to quick slants.

I'd add hitches and fades to this too. If Hunter and CP can read the coverage early and release quickly, I think they can both have big days not necessarily in yardage, but they'll get a ton of receptions. The big plays will come off of PA passes, in my opinion.

We should just run an old "Steve Spurrier" curl where the receiver goes out 8 yards shoves or knocks the defender to the ground, turns around and catches the ball. Worked great for them in the 2000 game.:p

I'm hoping Vols get some big plays on YAC as well. Catch a 5 yard hitch shake off the defender and ramble another 20+:loco:

They will press at the line and then hold on for dear life.

Wouldn't surprise me if CP and JH have to change jerseys due to the shirt tails being stretched down to their shoes.
