There is a HELL of a lot to be excited as a UT fan

I think this is a good year to see how well our coaches can game plan, how they handle adversity with injuries, and how disciplined the team plays. I fully expect us to do no better than last year, at best, but I don't put that on Dooley. So far it seems like recruiting is going well and if we can fill in our gaping holes with solid talent on our lines I think we'll be set for success in the near future.

All this talk about recruiting classes and injuries is seriously detracting from the positives going on in the program right now. There are some really good young players that are going to be names every UT fan will know by heart 10 years from now on campus. Dooley has done a FANTASTIC job of bringing in players that fill a serious need on the team and who show a ton of promise outside of the lines of normal recruiting. The future is bright for Tennessee regardless of what you think Dooley's future may be.

And hell, football is right around the corner.

Great post.

but this is going to be an ugly season. One thing we will get out of it, "can this group of coaches get the job done". By season's end we will know whether Dooley is La Tech or UT capable. There will be NO fence sitters when this season is done.

I think it will be next year before we will really know.

Ugly is subjective. Depends on what you are looking for.

Considering the current situation, I don't think a 5-7 win season would be "ugly" unless they are non-competitive.

Its uncanny how much Justin Hunter reminds me of AJ Green as a Freshman. exact same body type, just hope he has the same hands.

this young talent has me so amped up.
Eric Gordon, Brent Brewer, Da'Rick Rogers, Justin Hunter, Corey Miller, Jacques Smith... Im ready

even Evander Wells has me intrigued

The Oregon game looms to be one of the most anticipated games in UT history for a number of reasons. The first real challenge for a new coach and staff against a preseason Top Ten team with questions all over the field of its own. Obviously reminiscent in some ways of the Cal game in '06. I'll be there and I'll be louder than I've ever been. Couldn't be more ready for football season to start!!!

I think we're setting ourselves up for disappointment. I'll be thrilled if we can go .500+, with two bowl appearances, and avoid probation over the next three years. Thrilled, I tell you.

Great thread Sabanocchio. I also think there is alot to be excited about. It's almost football time in Tennessee. It doesn't get any better than that!

"It definitely is getting more consistent, definitely getting a lot better," Simms said. "But we can never be good enough, though.

"We have really high expectations here, even though a lot of other people don't. So we've just got to continue to work hard on it and not get lazy with it."

Looking forward to watching the QB with this quote. I think we will be a fun team with a lot of heart. Some monster is getting a rock in it's eye this season at our hands.

I'm not excited about what these freshmen are going to do in the future. I'm excited what they are going to do this season, esp. the wr's. I've watched all the practice videos that they've put out and Da'rick Rogers and Justin Hunter have some serious hands and speed. Throw their size into the mix and they're going to be dangerous coming in off the bench. They'll definitely be a change of pace!

Brutal schedule. I am just hoping the Vols are still IN all our games going into the 4th qtr. SEC is up right now, Vols are not. Yet.

I think continuity is gonna be important in the next several years. If CDD can keep these coaches and other staff together for a few years, we're back. This is a good staff and has the potential to be great, IMO.

There is some chance that these guys show up with one helluva a chip on their shoulders.

Just keep it out of Bar Knox, and channel it on the field, gentlemen.

Our program is in great hands. This season was going to be a rough one even if X and Co. had stayed. CDD should be judged by how competitive and hard we play this year, not necessarily on wins and losses. Our lack of depth will catch up to us later in the year (just like it did last year) but I expect us to start out well and keep each game competitive. Oregon has their own issues as well..... and they are coming into our house. I would not be surprised at all if we pulled the upset on them.

This. I'm hoping for a competitive team this year, regardless of W-L record.

I think there is alot of potential with this staff. Including the potential for them to stay together for a while. Dooley is confident enough to hire assistants that have the potential to take his job. I like that. It is a motivator.

Great post.

If we can get decent production at QB, I think we have a chance at a decent year. The vibes keep getting more positive the closer to kick-off! I think it's very good that Simms is evidently creating separation too. We need a clear 1 and 2.

I'm getting excited about the upcoming season as much as anybody but I don't really see reason to be more optimistic now than I was a month or two ago. Injuries were the one thing we needed to avoid with our depth issues and we already have issues before the season starts.

All I'm saying is don't let you anticipation for the start of the season get carried away. It will likely be a very bumpy and long ride. It's going to be a tough one.

Boy I can not believe I am defending Fiji here, but I think he is referring to how the coaching staff does with the players. Do they have mental mistakes, missed assignments and do we see improvement over the season. I do not believe he was talking about the W-L record.
i don't believe he was ...
