There are two options....

Gee, that looks a whole lot like the "America, Love It or Leave It" gibberish the W supporters liked to spew. There's a simple third option. Any sane Tennessee basketball fan became accustomed to it through multiple coaches. It's not complex. You accept the fact you have a bargain basement coach, laugh at the absurdity of the situation, show up at the games and root for miracles, then spend the offseason hoping the athletic director comes to his senses and rectifies the problem.

or the new AD will

It boils down to this you want a gimmick like FLK, or a coach that other SEC coach's are worried about. CUM was a gimmick that worked. FO at Mississippii was a gimmick that did not. Auburn did not go the gimmick route, FLK had no business in the SEC. CDD has. Saban has now proven he is not a gimmick. Miles is a half gimmick. Johnson and Groves are better coaches. Recruiting will be fine. Cut the panic. Spurrier is at sc for the golf. FLK is where he needs to be in Hollywood. Actors will come and go.

I support the Vols and Mr. Dooley. I wish for only the best...but it is just a wish. Being capable of rational thought, looking at the facts, and knowing that we are in deep trouble doesn't make me any less or greater of a fan than anyone anywhere.

This is hilarious, you either support this hire or you can leave, or you never were a fan to begin with?
There are a few of us posters on here who have been a fan of the Vols long before some of you were even thought of or were born. I have been a fan now for over 40 yrs and I will continue to support the young men who come here and wear the orange and white. It does not mean I have to support this new coach, which I feel was a rush hire by our AD and he made a poor choice IMO. Do I wish the new coach failure? no, does he have my support? no. I don't blame Dooley for taking the position, from his resume it is a dream come true. But there is nothing in our new coaches resume that says winner, if CD comes in here and wins I will support him but the young men who wear the uniform I will always support.

I wanted Fulmer gone after 2000 but I still supported the team, just because you do not approve of the coach hire and feel your university acted in haste does not make you any less of a fan or a bandwagon fan. If certain peoples view points irritate you, there is a function called ignore on here, use it. But to question whether or not a fan is loyal based on their opinion of the new coach is absurd.

For those of you that are either questioning the hiring or are COMPLETELY against it....

1. Leave. If you don't like what has been put in front of you and are questioning yourself as a Vol Fan, then leave. You probably were never a fan in the first place, so don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

2. Get behind our coach 110%. He's been put in a VERY tough spot and needs us fans more than ever.

Figure it out.

This is a no brainer for me......Option #2 please!
GO VOLS!!!!!!!

Only way he is going to come out of this and do well is if we support him. He can't have that half-assed support that people seem to want to give, because they are playing armchair AD. We have to put our butts in the seats, if we can, and do whatever we can to help him. If your thinking that 3-5 years down the road that you want to come back on here and tell us you were right and that they shouldn't have hired who they did, well honestly, your the worst kind of fan. Won't support anyone you don't agree with, even though the kids go through hell with the man to prepare week in and week out to win football games for this university and entertain you on a Saturday. I think it's pathetic to do that, IMO. If I had the financial resources, I would be at every game this year making sure that Coach Dooley KNEW I believed in him and the team knew it. Even if you don't agree with the hire, you can at least get behind him to let the team know you care.

Remember, every successful coach started somewhere.

He could have the support of the whole state, it does not mean he would be successful. I went over by the stadium last night because the field was lit up for the recruits and was hoping to catch their reactions. One of Knoxville's finest finally told me I had to leave. The new coach is going to have to win me over, it does not mean I do not support the team, and it does not make me any worse of a fan.

In my younger days I was a vendor at the stadium and later became an usher just so I could watch the Big Orange play. I can get in my car and in 15 minutes be at Neyland stadium, I go by there often because it means something to me. The passion in my life for this team is not in question and neither is my fanhood.

So, your going to support him from what you are saying, albeit reluctantly. This post was a different tune that your last.

I am not excited about the hire. I didn't know enough about him before the hire and it happened too quickly to become excited. That will change over time. From what I can gather from his resume, life achievements(i.e.graduate with a law degree), and his press conference, he seems to be an upstanding man and a diligent worker. I want this man, Head Coach Derek Dooley, to succeed so I am going to give him my full support.

GO VOLS !!!

In no form or fashion did I say I support the new coach, I don't blame him for taking the position nor do I have any ill will towards him. I blame Hambone for the rush hire and this hire will seal his fate as the AD. Do I hope Dooley is successful here? of course I do, but for now I am not on the Dooley bus. I am on the I am All Vol bleed orange till the day I die train.

I disagree whole heartedly. I don't see anything wrong with questioning a hire that, had it been made by Kentucky, would be ridiculed to no end on these boards. I can still support the program and do that.

I'm warming to Dooley in the sense that I understand in some part what the administration was trying to do when they picked him, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a head-scratcher, brought on by a nearly impossible situation.

Great comparison, and pretty much exactly how I feel right now. I just hope we're not going to have to sit through 4 years of this bum.

Exactly the problem. If you diagree with the hire, that's fine. But calling the man a bum before he has ever coached a down is pure stupidity and arrogance.

I's pretty childish to not support a new coach because you didn't get your pick as the new hire. Hate the AD that made the hire. Hate the BOT for allowing him to be hired. But in no way could I say that I don't support a coach who has never coached a down, and still call myself a fan.
