I, as well as many other UT fans, have come to the conclusion that there are no miracles for this team

The only thing that is going to fix this is continuity in coaching and recruiting. We can't be wanting a new OC to come in and try to start a new offensive scheme just one year into the new staff

The problem is not coaching. The problem is on the bad recruiting done by Butch the last 5 years. Building an OL that was small in order to run his offense and not recruiting big mean bulldozers that can inflict their will on the defense. Our OL is soft, mentally and physically. They are a result of bad coaching for too long. They lack a mean streak.

Added to that, our best OL is sidelined with medical issues. TS has that mentality, but he can't make the others play like him. Our OL misses this

This staff is doing the best the can with the tools they have been handed to complete the job

QB- JG is very talented but his pocket presence and awareness is lacking. If you give every QB 6 seconds to throw, they will throw for great numbers too. IMO, if he doesn't have an open receiver, he needs to hit the jets. It will at least make the LB set back instead of run blitzing or dropping into coverage

RBs- Solid group but dependent on the OL to open holes. I have seen several times where they run into the backs of our OL. This is mainly because our OL had their ashes handed to them and got pushed into the running lane. Better OL will correct this issue

WR- Talented but underutilized. Again, because the OL gives the QB no time to set and go through progressions. Also, with no threat from the running game and 4 men rushing being effective, the LBs can back off and cover the crossing routes.

TE- Solid but same problem as with the WR

OL- Horrendously Horrendous. Worst unit on the team. They should be ashamed to walk on the field and perform in such a manner. I would quit my job if I was that bad

Defense- much improved unit all around. They work hard and are aggressive. Love watching them play

DL- Doing great imo. These guys play hard every play

LBs- Talented group. Still young but improving

DBs- Still lacking talented depth. Still young and need to improve on deep coverage

K- great

P- great

STs- great

Let this work itself out before going full bore on changes in the staff.

Butch Jones ruined this team more than some would like to admit. You wanted to give that moron more time. The least you can do is give this staff more than 6 months

There is no disputing how awful our oline is... having said that I think people give our rb’s to much credit, none of them can seem to make something out of nothing, I know it’s hard behind this oline but once in a while you’d think they could pull a rabbit from a hat... I mean who couldn’t run the ball if the oline opened up huge holes for them every play? Watching yesterday I saw at least two plays where the oline actually blocked well and both times the backs just kind of hesitated in the backfield until they could find an olinemans back to just run right into for no gain. Again I’m not sticking up for the oline, they are really bad. I just don’t see the talent some do at running back. I see small, slow backs with no vision for the hole on the rare occasion there is a hole to be found.

Been saying the same thing.....

except I just cannot agree with you, Count, on our LBs! They're the worst I've ever seen as a unit for my beloved VOLS since before 1979.... Maybe #13 and #14 have some potential as well as JJ....but we need help at this position as much as we need OL....

Freshman DBs are showing promise....Buchanan is improving....but we NEED SEC caliber SAFETIES.... Taylor, Flowers, and Thompson will be beasts in another 2 years....but they need quality depth....

good post...

Miracles are inspired by God.

God doesn't care about football, I dont believe.

This team just needs to get better. They can win if they play well, and the other team is hungover. Luckily they play games in lieu of allowing nega vols to predict the outcomes.

What we would like to see is Derrick Henry/Damien Harris types who run with their legs up high with no hesitation, full bore and full speed ahead at about 240lbs apiece and carrying tacklers an additional 4 yrds or more after the tackle. First we need some big, strong linemen to attack the defense and an upgrade in size and quality of RBs. Our are serviceable, but they aren't Leonard Fournette/Derrick Henry/Benny Snell quality just yet. As much we despise Bama as an opponent, you really had to sit back last night and appreciate what a football machine they run offensively and defensively. Yeah, they are 4 and 5 star recruits for sure, but their motors run 60 minutes and every play for Saban and that doesn't have anything to do with star ratings. That's just maximum effort that they have been taught to give on every down until time expires.

Good observations Count. Technically we lost our two best OL.

Also, I wouldn't be quite as kind to our defense just yet. Our run defense is lacking and the and DL/LBs can be spotty at times. Young secondary is holding their own. Safety play has been good considering injuries.

Agreed 100%. This staff needs no less than 5 years to get things in place they want. SEC caliber players, and a tough mentality. This team is full of Lyle softies. Not all but a huge majority of them are not D-1 level players. It sucks as a fan but we have endured 10 years of this crap we can surely give 5 more and let Pruitt turn it around. The battle captain trusts him and so should we.

strips-the lesser has had six years to build a power house at Kentucky, and yet unable to even be competitive with Georgia. Jones had five years to build something at UT and failed miserably. If Pruitt can not achieve a bowl game two years in a row, then it would be well past time to part ways with him.
