The Zone Runs Thread - 2013

We can do a 10k in between. That only adds a mile to the run.

Voxx - the message board said later on today because of some issue they were having.

Only? Did you feel like running another mile at the end of that? I didn't.

I'd rather add 1 mile than double it. Seems more reasonable.

I didn't feel bad until I sprinted the last 100 yards.

Well then you weren't running hard enough, IMO.

This was the first race I've run so far that I physically didn't have the energy to sprint the last eighth mile. I was very proud of myself. I picked up the pace, but sprinting was out of the question.

How'd your splits look?

Part of any distance running is maintaining pace. If you outrun yourself in the beginning, you're fawked at the end.

My final mile was my quickest because I had more in the tank than I figured at the end.

Third mile was the fastest. They were pretty even. According to my stupid app, I ran 4.99 miles, so if I want the last mile, I'll have to calculate it myself. Also, I left the app running for like 15 or 20 seconds after I crossed, so I have no clue on the final mile. It was probably faster, because I increased my pace with a half mile to go and then increased it some more with an 8th of a mile to go.

I can tell by looking at my "heat map" that my 5th mile was faster than my 4th, at least. The 4th mile is the only one that shows some orange zones in it.

Mile Time Cumulative
1 8:18 8:18
2 8:24 16:43
3 8:15 24:58
4 8:56 33:54
5 8:55 42:50*

*This is my best guess based on what the clock said when I crossed. My chip time may actually be less than 42:50.

How were your splits? Fairly even?

Exactly. My past races have been like this, so I upped my pace early. It was brutal after 3 miles, but I think it improved my time overall.

There's only so much catch up you can do at the end. I'd rather trail off a little bit than have to play catch up and be well rested.

I went through this Saturday.

The difference is you are concerned with the time. I want to finish and keep improving distance. Eventually the time will improve.

This running is bad for my health. I'm down to 165 lbs. I need to find some more food to eat! You can see my abs. Pretty soon, you'll see ribs! WTF!

Just keep practicing drinking beer. Darker, real beer. I run 16 miles a week and weigh 253. It's all in the effort young man.

Voxx bought a round of carbombs after the race. A round in which he chose to opt out of. A fact that we must never forget.

Those will pack on the pounds.
