The Zone Runs Thread - 2013

Ran the Assault on Sylvania Mountain 5k last night at a 9'48" pace. I could've done better, but I don't want to push it. I'll do faster before next week.

In the last quarter mile, there is a 400 - 500 ft elevation change. You have one hill, and then after you climb over the serpent's broken back, you get about 0.05 mile breather before you have to attack the head.

I sprinted up it last night, so I feel like I could've bettered my pace if I had sustained my starting pace a little longer. I was afraid I'd run out of juice. I normally take a different route so I skip the first hill on the way back, but I wanted to see what I could do.

After running this route for the past couple months, I don't think hills have any effect on me at all anymore.

Peach, did you also run this? If so, how badly did you embarrass Thrash?

lol that wasn't a real race, dummy.

I figured since you know every detail about my life, you knew that I lived on Sylvania Mountain.

So last night was a pretty unremarkable 3.14 in 30:05

I don't think I will hit my goal of 27:00

Hard to say what effect taking all the hills out will have, though. My fastest 5k so far was about 2 months ago, I believe. It was a 28:30 in Sequoyah Hills, which is pretty flat. I think I've built some more stamina since then.

The 50 ft of elevation won't be a problem. I go through that in the first 1 minute of my normal run.

I hit 31:20 on my run Saturday night. I hope to break 31 at the race.

I thought Sylvania Mountain was in Georgia.

I just remember everything people say. It's a curse.

Are we meeting up just before the race?

I would suggest everybody just look for the Rover, but they are expecting more than 1300 people. Parking close might suck.

You will also pick up some time just from being in a race environment. I usually ran quite a bit faster in races than when I ran alone.

I don't drive the Rover anyway.

Looks like a clusterf***

I hope timing starts when you cross the start line. I don't want my time screwed up by this cluster at the beginning of the race. Also, slow peeps better GTFO of my way.
