The WRASSLIN’ Thread

They're gonna push things over the edge when they feed Strowman, someone that the fans actually like and cheer for, to Reigns thinking that it will validate Reigns and the fans will buy in.

Afraid not.

The Reigns push might be the craziest long term booking in wrestling history. When Luger faultered Vince cut bait and went with Hart/Michaels in like six months. The Roman push started since January 2015 and they are still trying to push THE SAME CHARACTER over with the fans. It’s unbelievable.

We kind of talk ab Cena’s reign of terror but at least Cena got over organically and was a cheered, over baby face as WWE champion until around WM22. Reigns has never gotten originally long term. It’s baffling.

I didn't watch wrestling that far back, but was Luger ever one of the top merch sellers? A big reason Roman is still being pushed heavily is because he's still has a very solid number of fans buying his merchandise (mostly casual but even some hardcore).

He's one of the top merch sellers but from what I read it isn't some ungodly amount though.

1. Alexa Bliss is still clearly the most polished all around wrestler in the women’s division. There’s some with better in ring talent, but no one else can carry a match nor (especially) a promo like she can.

2. Kevin Owens is resorting back to being a funny heel. It can’t work for me.

3. In a world where Jinder gets to be the most boring, weird, and predictable wrestler in twenty years yet continue to stay in the main storylines, yet alone a major brand, there’s no way you can complain about Ziggler.

Number 1 made me laugh out loud. Thanks

The issue is that the WWE as a whole isn't very popular right now with Reigns being the top guy and ratings and attendance reflect that.

WWE being down isn't because of Reigns being pushed to the top. It's because there are little to no storylines/characters. It's changed from pure TV show entertainment to trying to be a sport. The attitude/ruthless aggression era were popular because of the larger than life characters and compelling storylines.

Kinda interesting that wrestling in the mainstream of the US is super low but there are so many successful brands and incredible amounts of talent around the world.

I think it's always been kind of that way. There are occasional mainstream breakthroughs, but it's mostly existed as a sideshow.
