Redesigning the SEC into 2 divisions in 1992 and placing UT in a loaded EAST. The EAST has dominated the WEST every year in mens BB and in football (obviously in Women's BB) except for the year AUB went undefeated. Every year, UT faces the best teams in the nation in their on division. What kind of cakewalk would some of these great UT teams have if they played in the lousy WEST division? Bruce Pearl would be so far ahead in the West by now that it would not be funny. Oh well, I'll shut up now and listen to your opinions.

Tennessee can't help it that they're in the East. They split the conference up according to the location of the teams.

...and 2001 when Lsu won the sec. And 2003 when Lsu won the sec and split-nc. And last year when two of our three sec losses were to sec-west teams. And what team gave UF their only loss last year? Auburn. And which team got a BCS at-large and blew out ND? Lsu.

Lsu and Auburn have been pretty much equal to Uga and Florida in this decade. The East doesnt dominate the West in football.

Look at the records 2001: EAST clearly head and shoulders above the west; LSU would not have been near the championship game had they been in the EAST

maybe they need to change to a north/south orientation?....maybe we'd get KY, Vandy, Ark, Miss, and GA

this is ridiculous.

when the split occurred, Bama had just won a natinoal title. Auburn had just got done being a powerhouse in the 80's (and went undefeated in what, 93? but on probation) hell, even Ole Miss and MSU weren't THAT bad back then. Ark had just come out of the SWC where in 1990 they had won that conf. LSU was average.

FL at that time was still not FLORIDA, GA was a bit down, SC was pathetic and Vandy and KY were Vandy and KY. Tennessee in the very early 90's was probably the team to be at the onset.

this thing is cyclical...someone already mentioned, but bama has won SEC titles since the split, so has Aub and LSU...MSU and ARK have played for SEC titles.

FL, TN and UGA have all played in and won the SEC...

if you ask me, it's tough pretty much all the way around these days..........

The worst thing to happen to Tennessee was Florida hiring Steve Spurrier.

Tennessee=Alabama
Florida=LSU
Georgia=Auburn
SCarolina=Arkansas
Kentucky=OleMiss
Vandy=MissState

I don't think they could have drawn it up any better. Even better, each of the teams compared to each other above actually represent the continuous annual opponent on the other's scheduel (i.e. UT-UA).

The West has been better than the East the last 4 years.

Doug Dickey.....the guy almost single handily ruined basketball at UT......Thank God for Bruce Pearl!

Eric Ainge's shoulder injury vs. Notre Dame

EDIT...I would also through in Inky Johnson's injury in there...that guy had a future in football.

If you want to argue that, then you should go back and say that the worst thing to happen to UT was the fact that we had no use for him coming out of high school. A lot of things might have been different if he had gone to Knoxville instead of Gainesville.

1. Not hiring Tim Floyd instead of Wade Houston.
2. Not hiring Bill Self instead of Jerry Green.
3. Not hiring Gregg Marshall instead of Buzz Peterson.

:eek:hmy: Didn't know we had a shot at Self.. but then again doesn't suprise me that I didn't know, since no one here was really that excited about bball then.
There's a great story behind that one. Dickey called Larry Brown, seeking advice as to who to hire. Brown told him he should hire Self, who was then the coach at Oral Roberts. Dickey responded by saying, "There's no way my fan base would let me get away with hiring the coach from Oral Roberts. I need a "name coach."" He then promptly hired a nobody from Oregon. The ironic thing is, he said he needed a name coach, but never asked Brown, who was at that time unemployed, if he would be interested.
