The Worst Scenario....

Look...the assertion by the OP is that Bama being in the championship hurts Tennessee, I don't agree. I never said anything about flipping recruits or anything...if you are a current player or a signee or recruit for Tennessee, I think it's a plus to get to see what it's going to look like, and that if they buy in, they too can be playing in the CFP.

I can watch a football game and not care which team wins, I can watch a football game because I enjoy the sport from the technical side. If I'm being honest, it's been difficult to watch UT football the last few years, not because we were losing, but because on almost every level, we didn't belong.

there's a lot here i agree with......

Lol. An interdivisional rival and our biggest rival being in the NC does nothing to help us, regardless if the DC of one is our next HC. Accept these simple things, and life as a Vol fan will be much easier. You can’t and won’t convince me of any scenario where this benefits UT.

So, if you can't be dissuaded from your statement, then why even post it let alone make a whole thread about it and waste everyone's time? :loco:

Best case for UT was for Clemson and OU to win. This immediately removes our on/off-the-field competition from contention. Next, hate Mayfield or not (I personally think he’s a prima donna, punk kid), but OU being the national champion would show that Clemson’s “perennial dominance” is untenable, and at least challengeable. Clemson is in our backyard competing for and stealing recruits left and right. Anything to mitigate their efforts only helps ours.

Flame away, but this upcoming game will be worse than coming down off a meth binge and having no money for a fix....

I wish there was a way both could lose.

Bama was/is the best option. Bama vs. OK was the best matchup. It get's GA beat and Bama another NC which doesn't help them in the least.

Clemson getting curb stomped by our new HC's defense was a good thing. GA needs to get killed by Bama. Hate that for our new DC but they just need to get beat into the stone age. Not going to happen I am afraid.

You made a statement but don't like arguments against? Bama being the NC is the best option. It nets them nothing and hurts us not at all. GA winning it would be terrible, Clemson winning it is nearly as bad. OK winning it wouldn't be as bad but I can't f'ing stand that little ***** Mayfield.

Saban gave credit to Pruitt, specifically...but yes, Bama will still look like Bama whoever their next guy is...All I'm saying is it doesn't hurt us one bit for current and future players to see what Pruitt has in store.

Under your scenario maybe Clemson hangs 40 on Bama, how would everyone feel about Pruitt then, lol.

Sal Sunseri was a LB Coach who got a promotion to DC when he got here...Big difference in my opinion.

Uh oh.

Ridiculous. Win and you’re in. The SEC needs no help. An undefeated or one-loss SEC team will certainly get in the playoff, and will do so perennially under those conditions. It will be a long time before TN has an undefeated or one-loss season.

No not really. A few years with Bama and other powers down creates bad RPI's in conference. Bad RPI's in conference gets the other 4 in if our conference champ is a 1 loss team. With the way it's looking, a one loss SEC Champ is becoming more and more likely. I don't understand why people can't see this.

I guess it depends on what level you are making the assertion. Bama being in the NC does not help UT at all. Not one bit. Does it hurt us? meh. I think you could argue it both ways.

I agree with your post for the most part though.

Why? I'm all for the SEC winning every single OOC game. I'm also for Jawja, Lizzards, and Criminal Tide winning unless they play us.

To be the best you gotta beat the best.

SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC!

I went to the mat with this the other night. I'm tagging you into the ring to continue. If UT is family, then the SEC (except for Vandy and Mizu) are extended family. I guess those two can be black sheep.....

I am going to stand by my assertion here. Just look at the conferences who have failed to make the playoffs at least one year since the playoffs were started. The Big 12 and Pac 10. Both of those conferences have teams every bit as storied as my Vols but the perception is they are weaker than the SEC, Big 10, and ACC. They have a higher bar. That is why we need the SEC to continue to succeed, even if it is not our school.

One other example. It was not that long ago going undefeated in the SEC did not guarantee an entrance to the championship game. Just ask the 2004 Auburn Tigers.

Facts, facts, facts! What is it with you and facts??

A Bama win and its business as usual until Saban hangs it up. A GA win might sting more but then again Smart could go the way of Fulmer, Chizik, Miles and Fisher after their title wins. The dynasties that never were. If UF's program can tank anybodies can. Tennessee just needs the guys that can be coached up and the coaches who can do it. We will still get our share of recruits.

The nest 2 years are going to be entertaining, but don't expect the Vols to do much winning, so brace yourself:)

It cant really get much worse than what we have endured since 2007. Give it a rest already. Either Georgia or Alabama will win the title. Both will continue to dominate for the near future. We will probably not sniff an East championship due to the herculean failure that is little Jimmy Haslam. I think Pruitt will get us competative in the next 2 years though. Will we be at a championship level? Highly doubtful. OU and Clemson winning would have not changed our situation one bit imo.

Accept these simple things and life as a Vol fan will be much easier.

This is the best post I've read. Plus, don't forget Florida's Mullen hire. That is bad news for us, and probably worse for us than Kirby at UGa. And, of course, we still play Bammer every year. Pruitt will play identically to Bama on both offense and defense, meaning Saban knows what's coming. We will have to out recruit him to beat him - and that is highly doubtful.
We will have to be happy with 9-3 tops and 8-4 and 7-5 on a regular basis.
