The "we're gonna rush the field" debate

I would like to contribute another "who cares" to this conversation. I'm also practically desperate for the Vols to beat he Gators, but if I were there I would still not rush. At the same time I would not blame anyone who did, especially the students, and I think anyone worried about fines or us looking bad is being sort of paranoid. It may make ESPN, someone there may or may not make fun of it a bit, and then no one will really remember. W/E.

Pros:

1) Wheeeeeeeee !

Cons:

1) Unsafe

2) Causes expensive damage to the field and often some of the equipment.

Cons easily outweigh the pros; therefore, it will happen.

So...there is a game to win first we will all look rather silly rushing the field after a loss.

I'm growing more fond of your "pro" argument. Tell me more????

Because when you rush the field you are telling the world (recruits included) that we are overachieving...that what we just accomplished is the best we can hope to accomplish. If you think beating a down florida team is the best we can hope to accomplish, well then you need some sense slammed into you..

No you're not. You're telling the world that you are passionate about the Vols and are going to enjoy celebrating the win. I know the team will be celebrating if they beat the gators and fans on the field will show them love and support. Recruits will love it.

This is not remotely similar to 1998. We are two programs trying to get out of the bottom of the SEC East this year. This would be like Vandy rushing the field after beating Kentucky. This game has little conference significance and zero national significance.

Some of you guys are ridiculous.

2006 - let's win and rush the field! Loss.

2008 - we better win! Loss.

2010 - maybe we can win? Loss.

2012 - OH IT'S ON NOW, WE'RE GONNA WIN AND RUSH THE FIELD! Loss.

2014 - Should we rush the field?

Come on guys, shut up and quit perpetuating this nonsense. Every year...

This will go over many heads on here. This isn't close to the same rivalry as it was 10-20 years ago.

I won't but the field will most likely be rushed. I, for one, will be acting like we've been there before.

There are a vast many vols fans who haven't "been there before" because we've lost to Florida for nearly a decade. The field is going to be rushed if we win, I can assure everyone of that.

I really hope not. It makes a school look like a big loser.

You don't rush the field against a team you should beat (as we should beat Florida), unless the game ends in an insanely dramatic fashion (see last year's Iron Bowl).

Really? Rush the field? Come on! We would be the laughing stock of college football! Lets just win the damn game and act like we have been there before.

Wear all orange, we win.

And to make this less chaotic, only those fans dressed in orange for the "Orange" sections may rush the field.

It is what it is. We HAVE been big losers, for a decade now. I agree it would be kinda dumb since UF arguably sucks this year but like I said earlier, the college aged UT fans haven't seen us beat Florida since grade school and perhaps weren't even into football back then - so possibly never. If we win I will not be surprised if they lead the charge.

History tells us the vols should virtually never beat the gators. A rivalry is a rivalry and regardless of either teams w/l record, a win is huge for the team on a losing streak (which in this rivalry is just about always UT). Flame me all you want but look at our record against Florida since Spurrier took over. We are hardly a rival to them and until we beat their asses with some regularity, a win against any UF team is huge.
