All of us want to see a successful team on the field. Truth is our program has fallen alot further behind than we realized.

Recruiting stopped during fulmer i would guess about 2006 or close. He stopped selling the tradition and we are seeing the fallout now.

Dooley and Chaney are not the answer. We look like a good 5th or 6th year high school team and neither one of those coaches can talk a 5 star player into coming to Knoxville based on the coaching success of either. Sal possibly can but I doubt it now.

The only way we climb out of this hole is a big splash hire. Period. That's how it's done. We fast track back up the ladder.

If not..we are looking at 8 years minimum to being a solid sec team. If that

Our Defense and Special teams are horrible.

My view of things...I have to be comfortable with my answers to these questions,
and then I can formulate my opinion of the program, short term and long term.

1) Do I feel that this team has the athletes in the secondary and at linebacker to compete with the best of the SEC?

My answer to this is NO...not there yet, maybe not even close. They are slow to close, take the wrong angles, and play too soft on coverage...especially when the blitz package is called.

2) Coaching on the defense....do we have the right staff.

I think Sal is the man to get it done, he just needs the time to implement the 3-4 and sadly, he needs more talent on that side of the ball. Others on that side of the ball may not be up to par to get this done. The secondary coaching staff needs to be overhauled....they own a lot of this mess.

3) OC...Chaney.

Should be let go, period. He makes some terrible drive killing calls...such as 3rd and short, calling a 20 yd pass, time and again, not only in this game but each and every game played this year. A good OC would salivate over the caliber of players on this side of the ball and would know how to exploit the strengths and when.

4) CDD....not all on him....he needs to be allowed to finish next year. So, a key indicator of whether he gets it will be what he does this off season with his staff. HE can recruit and will continue to do so...but he needs to tweak his coaching staff.

5) Kicking game....is an embarrassment and has been for a few years. Need to hire a quality kicking coach.

I will continue to support CDD and this team, but expect to see changes at the end of this year to show us that he gets it and understands where the fixes must be made. If 2013 is status quo....CDD will not be here after 2013.

Finally a reasonable post... :good!:

A coaching change now pretty much sends Tennessee football to athletic purgatory for the next 3 to 7 years, maybe longer.

And "YES", it can get worse. Fire Dooley this year, and you'll see a program that goes totally bankrupt, literally and monetarily.

While I see alot of people putting alot of blame on the OC, I have to ask a question. Who threw the ball? I ask that because when a play is called there are 3-5 options or more for the QB. He can throw the slant to ZR, he could throw the out route to Hunter, he could see the route is not there and check it down to Neal coming out of the backfield. Maybe the TE on a 7 yard hitch. BRAY is the one who chucks it deep every chance he can. Bray is a 3rd year QB who is(by some peoples claims) a 1st rd pick in the draft. Can he not check the pass play called on 3rd and 1 into a run? Is our QB situation so unstable mind wise that they are not allowed to do things like this? Yes, CJC should be fired with the entire staff IMO. I am not so sure HE is the reason this team continues to flop.

Sal is way over weight & over rated. He rode Saban's coat tails in Tuscaloosa. I can't accept no players. Dooley has had enough to have time to recruit and coach enough players to be respectable. What is Jim Tressell doing these days?

Tressel can't coach in NCAA for a few years. Got the Bruce Pearl treatment.

I don't care how bad the athletes are on defense, a good scheme/coordinator should be doing better than we are. We got more talent on defense from last year to this year, yet we have the worst defense I've ever seen on a football team of any variety. "But it is the transition to the 3-4"......... BS. I understand there were going to be growing pains from the transfer, but this is completely ridiculous. It is like our players intentionally try to get out of position on every play. You don't need five star linebackers and safeties to simply be in the right place when the ball is snapped. Quit carrying the water for Sal. He should be fired directly after Dooley.

As far as Dooley is concerned, he had TWO full weeks to prepare for this team. What did we get: Mistakes that any good middle school coach would not allow, players were not focused, terrible play calling, terrible kicking (Dooley's calling card), poor game management, and a plethora of other problems. I appreciate what Dooley has done to build up the roster and other things he has done such as VFL, but his coaching is completely outshining anything good that he has contributed to this point. He needs to go while we still have a chance of salvaging the good things that he has done. If we allow him more time, he will methodically destroy everything about this program that he has improved, and we will be back where we were before he got here.

Frustration Nation (and reasonably understandable). Everyone is sick and tired of losing, some are sick and tired of being sick of tired. :angry: :angry: :dunno:

Tennessee football will NEVER be relevant again as long as orange pants is the head coach. We have to cut our losses and get a compotent coach.

To tell you the truth I don't know what we have. Watching the first half made me think Chavis had returned to let the opponent march up and down the field at will. Then, I wondered if we bothered to practice. Finally, I figured out our worst case scenario - we must have a junior high defensive squad on the field coached by Chavis.

I'm just sitting on the side disgusted as most of us have been since crime ruled everything under the clapper regime. Don't know. Just don't know (shaking head).

There is one positive that we all can hold onto. We don't have to turn the television on for the Bama game. It has came down to this.
