I'm guessing that they cover her smell and doesn't attract more walkers. Kind of like the way Rick and Glen covered there clothes in walker bits to get to the cars in season one.

Sure would. But as we'll come to know, Michonne is one of the first characters that the group meets that isn't just trying to survive the new world.

Zombies don't need to eat. The have an innate "hunger" for human flesh, but it doesn't sustain them. They will wander until they decompose.
