Well when "so and so" died in GoT, it was only the first season, and there were so many different characters across the show that had great stories behind them. If Rick dies then what the **** is the point considering he's been the main leader and protagonist all this time, and to consider he basically was the main guy from the beginning as well, it's impossible to see him gone.
True, but I think a reasonably strong argument can be made that so and so was the central character in season 1; and many expected him to remain central throughout the show.
