The Walking Dead

You guys complaining are all crazy. This was interesting seeing a different viewpoint of the apocalypse. It was a show headlining only Beth so I'm not sure why you were expecting a lot to begin with. Could be worse, they could have a show headlining Eugene. That would be some boring crap.

I don't get the idea that this is a "different viewpoint." A crazy control freak is ruling over a band of survivors and claims they are doing so for the greater good, so they justify their actions.

That's hardly original in this series.

So I guess I wasn't paying full attention at one point or something. Was Joan raped by the cop Beth killed? And then she killed herself and left a message on the floor?

Also dawn said a good man was once the leader and then it showed a picture of her with a man maybe implying she had to kill her own husband?

Oh, about Beth's singing...

Lol. I was sure it was coming. When she brought the guinea pig to the doctor and she said "I still sing."

Am I the only one at that point that was preparing myself for her to sing for him?

The episode was fine, IMO.

My only problem is the way they spring violence on you without warning. It's like they're trying everything they can to get rid of squeamish audience members. My wife doesn't want to see an ice pick to the head, or an arm being sawed off. But the camera view will abruptly switch without enough warning to look away. They do it on purpose. Why?

Classic horror technique? It's still classified as horror drama so my guess is that's why

Yeah, but I don't get it in this instance. When you go to a horror movie, you go for the throat slashing, not for the writing. This isn't a 2-hour slasher movie. This is premium-channel quality writing. If it were a slasher it wouldn't be popular like it is. The people that are there for the gore will watch the gore still when you give them warning. The people that aren't the slasher crowd get to look away.

Win/win, IMO.

This show is built on gore and special effects to counter when the writing is bad. Watching this show for a drama/storytelling standpoint is really, really, defying the point of the show.

Not really. It's not the zombie crowd that makes this show so popular. It's the people who are curious about how humans behave in an apocalyptic scenario.

If this were just a zombie show, then it wouldn't be AMC's top show. You'd probably be watching it on Sci Fi, and I wouldn't be watching at all.

Does the doctor survive? Doubtful if previous episodes have set the pattern.

I enjoyed this episode. The action was not there, but they have to set up the next few episodes as well.

Looks like Beth and Carol are on hold for now. Will shift to Glenn and that group.
The Talking Dead showed a sneak peek of Abraham beating the ever loving crap out of some guy using a soup can to make his fist harder.
Next week should be action packed.

In the slower episodes, they seem to drop hints. I may rewatch it just for that.

Did truly enjoy the bad cop getting his throat ripped out by the girl that he apparently raped. Would seriously decrease the incidence of rape if that was the consequence:)

Dude wouldn't share his can opener :)

I agree with this but it's not very popular. I also thought the bone saw was pretty intense

The bone sawing was pretty graphic.

So one thing I didn't really understand. Before they wheel Carol in at the end, Beth has some scissors and appears to be headed for the doc, presumably to take him out. Was that because he tricked her into "accidentally" killing that other doc? That reaction seems a little on the severe side for her. Or was she really going after the lady cop?

This is giving Beth possibly more credit than she deserves but I think she was going after the doctor because she knows without the doctor that entire hospital situation goes completely out the window.

It's a completely different group of people, in the center of the city, living a completely different type of lifestyle. It sure seems like choosing to live in the city would make for harder survival with the excess of walkers around. This is the first glimpse of ATL that we've caught since the first season, maybe second.

They had to send her in as opposed to Daryl. She would be perceived as being weaker than a male counterpart.

I think she got hit and they took her due to her slim frame, she is less likely to fight back is their mantra. This time it will come back to bite them as Carol is anything but meek and docile. I think it would be funny if a Daryl led group bursts into Grady only to find Beth and Carol kicked back and relaxing after having handled this threat themselves:)

I wanted to bring something up that hasn't really been discussed. They claimed they "saved" these people from more dire circumstances but I'm not so sure that's what's really going on. Beth lost her memory of her abduction so I'm not so sure they aren't targeting people and drugging them. Might explain why Carol seems to be unconscious. There was no real reason for Beth to have forgotten what was going on.

I always DVR and start late to skip commercials. As soon as she said that I grabbed the remote and got ready to fast forward it. Lol

Yup A shot of Versed or Valium, even Xanax are all sedative hypnotics and can wipe out memory of recent events. Rohipnol too (date rape drug). When Daryl ran to the spot that Beth was abducted, there was no Walker corpse only some of her stuff. The Grady story of them saving her from a Walker was fabricated.

Those rip saw cords can go right through a limb (human or tree pretty quickly).

I agree...that doc was toast until Beth saw Carol. GameChanger moment for sure there.

I think that group staying at Grady makes some sense. Horrible known vs. Unimaginable unknown situation. Initially makes sense but aftthey go out to get more people, not so much. Seems like they would find a better defensible place...but that is just me. :hi:

Officer Dawn Lerner is played by the chick roommate from HBO's "Hello Ladies."

I think you're getting this confused with Z Nation.

You guys must be watching an entirely different show. The writing is terrible, and the acting is good B movie at best. You take out zombies and make the same characters living in the apocalypse and this show isn't even getting half the viewers. Americans love violence far too much, and the average viewer is not that into finding out about new societal norms or viewing the human psyche after excessive trauma.

Now if this were a British show... we might have something.

Thanks, I kept trying to remember what I knew her from.

Apparently it wasn't bothering you enough to actually put forth some effort and Google it yourself. :p

Was this a comment towards Z Nation or The Walking Dead?
