The Walking Dead

Quite often in this series, when a character like Beth, Herschel or someone else is given an episode spotlight, they are killed in the subsequent episodes.

Just finished the episode. Definitely the slowest to date. I agree that the promise of controversy led to a bit of a let down.

I also agree that Beth had a pretty sorry reaction to that first pull off straight shine. I thought she did a terrible job acting drunk too. Very lucid for drinking shine all day. Kinda funny they decided to start a zombie attracting house fire at night then stumble off drunk into the woods.

I guess there was some decent characterization but overall a disappointing episode.

They should've used real shine - she wouldn't have had to act =)

why would the walkers go away from the car trunk? couldn't theys smell them in there?

maybe they wanted to find shelter since it was getting dark

The walkers couldn't see them and they weren't making noise. They're not like vampires that can smell blood from across a room.

I think the better question is if they're all already infected why does a bite from a zombie kill them?

Agreed. My guess is that there was probably just water in those jars, at the very worst vodka.

I really enjoyed how Darryl killed the walkers in the club house. I was actually laughing out loud as he teed off on the one walkers head. The Talking Dead called him "Fore" walker. :p

I was just thinking about Darryl and how he was packing away the stacks of money. Was he doing so because he grew up poor and thought he was getting rich?

Or

Was he stashing it in his bag to use as toilet paper.

In a ZA toilet paper would have the value of gold.

Finding stacks of money even in a zombie apocalypse where money is useless would be a psychological win for anyone not just someone like Daryl. That was quickly corrected when he lit an entire stack on fire to burn down the house though.

My zombie knowledge says they can tell the difference between the living and the dead by scent, or the smell of fresh flesh and blood. It's why Rick and Glenn covered themselves in zombie guts. It's why Michonne had walker pets. It's why Daryl covered T-Dog and himself in dead people on the highway.

As for the bite part, no idea never understood that.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why a bite would kill except it's just kind of been the zombie lore. I read something about speeding up the infection blah blah blah, but I guess in the end a bite is bad cuz they said so.

I haven't read the comics so I don't know when they introduced, the "everyone is infected" aspect of the story. I know it was late season one, after people turned after being bitten. Maybe they started off with the traditional, "zombie bites you die" angle first. Then decided we'll make everyone infected. At that point you couldn't change what being bitten does, so you'd just have to roll with it.

Bite would be bad due to the bacteria in an aged Zombie that has eaten. Like a Kamodo Dragon. A Fresh zombie? Maybe not as much. Something causes a fever and death.

It wasnt until they were in the prison that it was revealed everyone was infected in the comics.

In the show the scientist at the CDC whispered it to Rick in he S1 finale but what he said wasnt revealed until the end of season 2 when Rick killed Shane and he turmed.

I agree, also Beth saying that that he will miss her when she is gone seems like a bit of foreshadowing.

but also most of them "know" they won't likely survive the whole apocalypse.

I thought of it more as now Darryl got to know Beth so if she dies, he'd actually miss her now (as opposed to just being another dead body). Not that she thought she was dying soon

I'm fully aware of all of that. What I'm saying is that despite being zombies they still have a human nose which is severely limited in it's abilities. They aren't like dogs that can track scents for miles. Put enough distance between you and them and they won't smell you. The trunk was sufficient enough. Also, in all those situations you mentioned above a zombie's vision played a roll in identification and the trunk nullified that sense as well.

So theoretically if someone gets bitten now and they have access to antibiotics they could prevent death and the subsequent change.

It very well could be. Technically she's not a member of the original cast(Daryl, Carol, Glen, Rick, Carl ).

It's been thrown around that the "controversial" move that's made is that one of the characters that's still alive in the comics today, is killed off the show. That's rumor/gossip of course.

The comedian that was on TTD said(with regard to next weeks preview), "those zombies walking through all that weed smoke is going to be crazy.":)

I'm pretty sure Andrea is still alive in the comics so I'm not sure how that is controversial. Additionally, Carol and Tyrese were both dead dead and Dale and Sofia were still alive as well.

I really think only Rick, Carl, and maybe Michone and Daryl are safe on the show.

First they were 2 feet away in a cracked trunk. Lol But zombies generally have a great sense of smell and hearing, the eyes tend to be the weak sense. Example Michonne walks around with 2 walkers, other walkers look at her and can't distinguish her being different. Zombie Michonne looked at her repeatedly and couldn't tell she was human, because the walkers were covering her scent. I would imagine their foggy looking eyes hinder their eye sight. Conversely I'd assume fresh flesh probably is as distinct to them, as decaying flesh is to us.

But it's not just aged zombies that cause it, the jail scene fresh zombies were turning people too. Or for example Milton with Andrea.
