The Vols will be better than expected if (-----).

I think a few of y'all are giving LSU far to much credit. Have you forgotten who
They hired as a head coach?!

Guice scares me... but for the most part, you're right. They were not that good last year and we have them at home - plus the "O" factor. Who knows how that will work?

No impact? It dictated the pace for the last quarter and a half. Appy State was whipped, spent, ready to be stomped. So they took knees for fake injuries every time that the momentum was going against them. It was pure bush league and detracted from their good efforts early on. It was a garbage tactic and shouldn't be ignored in the game summary.

Go back and look at how many yards were gained on the plays that had injuries. I think you'll be surprised.

TN was starting to put Appy State away. They faked injuries for stoppages throughout the last quarter and a half. Their defense was allowed to rest and sub at will when TN was hurrying to the LOS to prevent the defense from subbing. Appy State was on their heels. The fake injuries were totally disruptive to the rhythm and pace that TN had established. I hope that Appy State pulls that same gabage at Georgia.

And a built-in excuse if things don't go well. The "reasoning" will be, "Look at how many new coaches we had. The players weren't used to their style. It takes time."

Lol, its gonna be funny if Butch pulls it together this year and surprises everybody. The " eat crow" threads will crash the place and the excuse wagon will have a new driver and crew. Oh lawdz.

Who would be serving the crow? At best some think the jury is still out. That's not really a position of confidence.

There is a lot of evidence to consider, with plenty on both sides.

I wonder how many will be happy to say " I told you so."?

So earlier in the thread there is too many with confidence in Jones and now there's no one who should speak up.
Awesome.

No need to change the expectation due to who the HC is.

Since Vandy is a gimmie game based off who they are, we don't put them at the level of usually quality teams. Unless they do something to prove that they actually have gotten better(enough to matter) then they remain being called a gimmie game.

LSU is in transition with a new HC, at best it's a crap shoot how good they will be. I'm confident EO will run them down to a pre Cut level.

Saban is actually slipping at bama. He can't even hold on to an OC. With Kiffen I get it.

SC hasn't ever been good and Muschamp couldn't even succeed at Florida(post Spurrier), seems like a coach would have to try to fail. Nope, he is just that bad.

How many more years are you willing to keep Butch?

Vandy did do something to prove they are not a gimme game, did you watch vols football last year?

LSU has a new coach, but their talent level is better than ours.

Saban slipping at Bama....lol dude get real.

I think keep Butch two more years. He has done well enough to earn that, but two more years should be enough to prove he aint a very good coach.

This is honestly, really fair imo.

Who would be serving the crow? At best some think the jury is still out.

At latest count, 50 different people have responded, "I have confidence that Butch is leading us to championships; he's our coach for the long term" in another thread with a poll.

So that's plenty of people around who would be happy to serve up the crow (note: not taking credit here; I'm not one of those 50).

The better question is, how many of the 120 people who responded, "I hope he wins championships here, but don't believe he can," or the 2 people who answered, "I don't believe anyone can lead us to championships; we're average, should expect average results" would be intellectually honest enough to EAT the crow?

I don't care if anyone eats crow, be fine with me if they just stfu. But to think there won't be any crow eating threads if Butch surprised everyone.... Lol.

Good point. I personally have always taken care to admit openly when I was wrong. Think it's a good way of clearing the air for future discussions. But sure, folks are not required to do the same.

Is Vandy that much better than the past?

EO can coach a team down quickly. He may already be on the hot seat by te time he gets to Neyland.

2 years ago Bama won the NC, last year they didn't. They have run thru a couple of OC. Maybe they can bounce back, until they do, it looks like they are slipping.

50, that's plenty to serve all those that don't.

It doesnt matter on Vandy, if you lost to a team last season, you cant consider then a gimme game the following season. Especially considering that we are likely not as good a team as last season, even though we all hope we are.

Your prediction of EO may very well be correct, we will have to see. But LSU is a different animal than his time at Ole Miss, and you still cant argue that talent wise they are still better than us.

Saban team lost the NC on a last season play, with a freshman QB and was beaten by the team with the best QB in the country. Get real dude. Stop trying to convince yourself he is slipping. Besides, he can slip off the NC level and still be light years ahead of Tennessee right now.

Sure. I'll be more than happy to eat crow. NOW, how many VOL fans ate crow after last season?

The "crow eating" seems to go only 1 way on here.

BS.
I did even though I only said I would wait and see.

Congrats. Just read the board.... There are many on here that can't wait for the sports writers to eat crow after they've underestimated the Vols this season.

Nothing more than gamesmanship, I've seen it many times, so have you. And are you REALLY making the argument that that was some huge turning point in the game? Dude, come on, that's delusional.

They faked what, two injuries? And it was purely, 100% to stop any "momentum" we might have had after nearly an entire game of emotionally sleepwalking and getting shoved all over the field. It had virtually no impact on the game imho and to suggest that we would've somehow really pulled away from them and won comfortably had they not done it is ridiculous.

Again, they had more first downs and more yards in the second half of the game than the first and without several 50/50 things all going in our favor, we lose the first game of the season at home to a bad SunBelt team.

Actually, KB, to a good SunBelt team. The best SunBelt team, in fact.

Still a SunBelt team. Your point stands. Just gotta give the Mountaineers credit for being the class of their conference.

p.s. I'm re-watching that game today. I'm not even to halftime yet, have to keep stopping and doing other things. So painful to watch. We were sooooo far from what we hoped and expected to be. Sutton fumbling the first punt reception, JRM being ejected in the first quarter, their small defensive line gashing our much bigger OL, Dobbs and Malone mis-queueing off each other, and on and on. I know I was in denial during and after that game, not yet ready to admit that we didn't look anything like what we hoped we were gonna be.

I'll be the 1st in line to get my crow on!

But these "eat crow" threads tend to only go 1 way. Such as, how many Vols fans ate crow after last season?

I don't care if you eat crow or not, that wasn't my point. I will bet that any crow eating will be followed by, but.........

I still make fun of myself for saying we would beat SC by 24.

And again, it will be fine if there are no crow eating threads and the ones that should eat it, just shuddup.

I'll go ahead and say I'm eating crow either way this year also. I ended up voting the second option but after much deliberation. Either way, I have zero room to smack talk after the outcome.
But I'm perfectly ok standing by my word. No bs excuses like : I know what I said about if he beats UF but a different loss means I get to take it back.
